Paul Hawkins (racing Driver)
Robert Paul Hawkins (12 October 1937 – 26 May 1969) was an Australian motor racing driver. The son of a racing motorcyclist-turned-church minister, Hawkins was a capable single-seater driver but really made his mark as an outstanding sports car competitor driving Ford GT40s and Lola T70s. In 1969 Hawkins was included in the FIA list of graded drivers, an elite group of 27 drivers who by their achievements were rated the best in the world. Paul Hawkins (politician)
Sir Paul Lancelot Hawkins (7 August 1912 – 29 December 2002) was a British Conservative Party politician. Hawkins was born at Downham Market and was educated at Cheltenham College. He was a livestock auctioneer and chartered surveyor, and served as a councillor on Norfolk County Council. He joined the Territorial Army (TA) and served during World War II with the 7th Battalion of the Royal Norfolk Regiment, a TA unit, although his active service was brief as he was captured at Saint-Valery-en-Caux during the final stages of the Battle of France in 1940 and spent the next five years as a prisoner of war. Hawkins was Member of Parliament (MP) for South West Norfolk from 1964 to 1987 when he retired. Future minister Gillian Shephard was his successor. Sir Paul was a Government Whip under Edward Heath (1970–1974), serving as an assistant whip 1970–1971, a Lord of the Treasury 1971–1973, and Vice-Chamberlain of the Household 1973–1974. Paul Hawkins is a London-based author and singer-songwriter who grew up near Bristol and has been a key figure in London's antifolk scene. He regularly records in collaboration with Death in Vegas and Dot Allison guitarist Ian Button (also formerly of the Thrashing Doves) and a 6-piece band under the name of Paul Hawkins & The Awkward Silences. Hawkins has also worked with the artist Alex Templeton-Ward, utilising his bass and synth work both live and on record. His debut album ''The Misdiagnosis of Paul Hawkins'' was released on AFUK Records in 2006 (and was reissued as a digital download by free net label Fleeing from Pigeons in April 2009). Hawk-Eye
Hawk-Eye is a computer vision system used in numerous sports such as cricket, tennis, Gaelic football, badminton, hurling, rugby union, association football and volleyball, to visually track the trajectory of the ball and display a profile of its statistically most likely path as a moving image. The onscreen representation of the trajectory results is called Shot Spot. The Sony-owned Hawk-Eye system was developed in the United Kingdom by Paul Hawkins. The system was originally implemented in 2000 for television purposes in cricket. The system works via six (sometimes seven) high-performance cameras, normally positioned on the underside of the stadium roof, which track the ball from different angles. The video from the six cameras is then triangulated and combined to create a three-dimensional representation of the ball's trajectory.
