Killucan Gaelic Footballers
The villages of Killucan () and Rathwire () are co-located in the east of County Westmeath, Ireland. They have a combined population of 1,370 according to the 2016 census. Killucan is on the R156 road about from Mullingar and from Dublin. History History of Rathwire Both Killucan and Rathwire have ancient origins, as indicated by the ancient "Fairy Fort" in Rathwire. According to legend, this was built by the Chieftain Guaire who gave Rathwire its name. The ruins of the hillfort remain on the western end of the village. Legend has it that Guaire is buried in the ruins and is guarded by a savage dog who does not want the remains disturbed. Subsequently, the Norman Lord Hugh de Lacy built his Motte alongside the remains of Guaire's Fort. In 1210, the notorious King John came to Rathwire to subdue the De Lacys when he fought and won the Battle of Killucan. Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. Mullingar
Mullingar ( ; ) is the county town of County Westmeath in Ireland. It is the third most populous town in the Midland Region, with a population of 20,928 in the 2016 census. The Counties of Meath and Westmeath Act 1543 proclaimed Westmeath a county, separating it from Meath. Mullingar became the administrative centre for County Westmeath. Omagh St Enda's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Conor Sally is club chairman. History GAA clubs existed in Drumragh parish during 1904-09 (including hurling and camogie), 1917–20 and intermittently in the 1920s. However it wasn't until 1932 when the Omagh St Enda's club was founded. The club's first meeting took place on 28 February in St Patrick's Hall opposite the Sacred Heart Church. Omagh contested the Tyrone Senior Football Championship final on four occasions before eventually winning the cup for the first time in 1948, beating Clogher Éire Óg GAC 1-3 to 0-2. Drumragh Sarsfields is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Clanabogan between Omagh and Dromore in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 as a result of an amalgamation of Tattysallagh St. Eugenes and Tattyreagh St.Patricks. Drumragh Sarsfields GAC is a quickly growing Club which has recently completed development of Clubrooms along with two pitches. Phase III of development is currently in progress. Derrylaughan Kevin Barrys is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based along the Washing Bay area east of the parish of Clonoe in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. History Previous clubs existed in 1903 (‘Rising Sons of Goff’), 1917–19 and 1923 (Aughamullan Erin’s Hope/Pearses and Kevin Barrys). Washingbay Shamrocks flourished in period 1929-36 and 1939–48; won junior league in 1929, Dr. Collins Cup in 1932, SFC in 1934 (finalists in 1931), JFC in 1942. Today's club was formed in 1945, and named after Kevin Barry. The club saw success winning the Junior Football Championship in 1949. They beat Dungannon in the final in a low scoring game 2-3 to 1-1.
