Paul Girardet
Paul Girardet (8 March 1821, Neuchâtel - 28 February 1893, Paris) was a Swiss-born French copper engraver. Life and work He came from a Swiss Huguenot family, and his father was the engraver, Charles Samuel Girardet. His brothers, Edouard Girardet, Edouard and Karl Girardet, Karl, also became artists. Like them, he received his first art lessons from his father, but was interested only in copper engraving, which he worked hard to perfect. He also took courses in drawing at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His works first appeared in ''Le Magasin Universel'' in 1839. Three years later, he took part in his first exhibition, with four mezzotint, mezzotints. After this success, his reputation was firmly established. Paul Delaroche
Hippolyte-Paul Delaroche (17 July 1797 – 4 November 1856) was a French painter who achieved his greater successes painting historical scenes. He became famous in Europe for his melodramatic depictions that often portrayed subjects from English and French history. The emotions emphasised in Delaroche's paintings appeal to Romanticism while the detail of his work along with the deglorified portrayal of historic figures follow the trends of Academicism and Neoclassicism. Delaroche aimed to depict his subjects and history with pragmatic realism. He did not consider popular ideals and norms in his creations, but rather painted all his subjects in the same light whether they were historical figures like Marie-Antoinette, figures of Christianity, or people of his time like Napoleon Bonaparte. Joseph Nicolas Robert-Fleury
Joseph-Nicolas Robert-Fleury (8 August 17975 May 1890) was a French painter. Biography Born in Cologne, he was sent by his family to Paris, and after travelling in Italy returned to France and made his first appearance at the Salon in 1824; his reputation, however, was not established until three years later, when he exhibited Tasso at the Convent of Saint Onophrius. Endowed with a vigorous original talent, and with a vivid imagination, especially for the tragic incidents of history, he soon rose to fame, and in 1850 succeeded François Granet as member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. In 1855, he was appointed professor and in 1863 director of the École des Beaux-Arts, and in the following year he went to Rome as director of the French Academy in that city. Émile Jean-Horace Vernet (30 June 178917 January 1863), more commonly known as simply Horace Vernet, was a French Painting, painter of battles, portraits, and Orientalism, Orientalist subjects.
