Paul Butler (cricketer)
Paul Richard Butler (born 26 June 1963) is a former English cricketer. Butler was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He was born in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. Butler made his debut for Lincolnshire in the 1983 Minor Counties Championship against Cumberland. Butler played Minor counties cricket for Lincolnshire from 1983 to 1995, which included 51 Minor Counties Championship matches and 11 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. He made his List A debut against Surrey in the 1983 NatWest Trophy. He scored 4 runs in the match, before being dismissed by Ian Payne. He played a further List A match for Lincolnshire against Lancashire in the 1988 NatWest Trophy. In this match, he took 3 wickets for the cost of 20 runs from 2.5 overs, while with the bat he scored 33 runs before being dismissed by Jack Simmons. The 1983 NatWest Trophy was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 29 June and 3 September 1983. The third NatWest Trophy competition, it was won by Somerset who defeated Kent by 24 runs in the final at Lord's. Format The seventeen first-class counties were joined by thirteen Minor Counties. Jack Simmons, MBE (b. 28 March 1941) is a former cricketer who played for Lancashire and Tasmania. Early life Born 28 March 1941, Clayton-le-Moors, Lancashire, Simmons grew up there. He attended Accrington Technical School and then Blackburn Technical College, where he proved to be a gifted cricketer. However he did not show enough consistency at an early stage to attract the attention of County selectors. Instead following leaving school he became a journeyman professional cricketer in the lower Lancashire leagues. Lancashire County Cricket Club represents the historic county of Lancashire in English cricket. The club has held first-class status since it was founded in 1864. Ian Roger Payne (born 9 May 1958) is a former English cricketer. Payne was a right-arm medium-pace bowler and right-handed lower-order batsman. He was educated at Emanuel School and won The Cricket Society Wetherall Award for the leading all-rounder in English schools cricket in 1976, when he scored 1144 runs at an average of 52.00 and took 79 wickets at 8.68. He played first-class cricket for Surrey from 1977 to 1984 and Gloucestershire in 1985 and 1986, and later played Minor Counties cricket for Shropshire from 1994 to 1997. He won the man of the match award when he took 3 for 20 off 11 overs to help Surrey to a three-run victory in a semi-final of the Benson & Hedges Cup in 1981.
