Jawi Alphabet
Jawi (; ace, Jawoë; Kelantan-Pattani: ''Yawi''; ) is a writing system used for writing several languages of Southeast Asia, such as Acehnese, Banjarese, Kerinci, Maguindanaon, Malay, Minangkabau, Tausūg, and Ternate. Jawi is based on the Arabic script, consisting of all of the original 31 Arabic letters, and six additional letters constructed to fit the phonemes native to Malay, and an additional phoneme used in foreign loanwords, but not found in Classical Arabic, which are ''ca'' ( ), ''nga'' ( ), ''pa'' ( ), ''ga'' ( ), ''va'' ( ), and ''nya'' ( ). Jawi was developed from the advent of Islam in the Maritime Southeast Asia, supplanting the earlier Brahmic scripts used during Hindu-Buddhist era. Southern Thailand, Southern Siam or Tambralinga is a southernmost cultural region of Thailand, separated from Central Thailand region by the Kra Isthmus. Geography Southern Thailand is on the Malay Peninsula, with an area of around , bounded to the north by Kra Isthmus, the narrowest part of the peninsula. Pattani (town)
Pattani is a town (''thesaban mueang'') in the far south of Thailand, near the border with Malaysia. It is the capital of Pattani Province. The city has a population of 44,353 (2018). It covers the whole ''tambon'' Sabarang, Anoru and Chabang Tiko of Mueang Pattani district. Pattani lies 1,056 km south of Bangkok, and is located at the mouth of the Pattani River. The river may have changed course and empty into the sea at the current location in the 16th century. A small port existed in the current location at Kuala Bekah at the mouth of Sungai Patani by the early 17th century. However, the older historical centre of the Pattani Kingdom that ruled over the region of Patani was located a few miles to the east of the present city; near Ban Kru Se or Kampong Kersik, which is where the Krue Se Mosque is located. Bang Lang Reservoir
Bang Lang Reservoir ( th, อ่างเก็บน้ำบางลาง) is a reservoir in Bannang Sata District, Yala Province, southern Thailand. The reservoir is on the Pattani River. The reservoir's dam, Bang Lang Dam, is 85 metres high with a crest of 422 metres long, and the reservoir has a capacity of 1,420 million cubic metres. It is used for irrigation and flood control as well as to produce 72 MW of electricity. History Construction of the dam was approved on 3 April 1973. Construction started in July 1976. In June 1981 the dam was completed. It was officially inaugurated on 27 September 1981 by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The reservoir submerged the village of Ban Toh. In 2016, declining water levels caused the village remains to resurface.
