Patrick Kankiriho
Brigadier Patrick Kankiriho (October 28, 1961 – April 8, 2013) was a military officer in Uganda. He was a senior commander in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). At the time of his death, he was the commander of the 2nd Army Division in Mbarara, Western Uganda. In 2008, he served as the commander of ''Operation Lightning Thunder'', the military operation that dislodged the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels out of Garamba National Forest, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Background and education He was born in Kiruhura District in 1961. Patrick Kankiriho attended Mbarara High School in the 1970s. In 1977, he left school to join the Uganda National Liberation Front guerillas who overthrew Idi Amin in 1979, with the assistance of the Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF). Kiruhura District
Kiruhura District is a district in the Western Region of Uganda. The town of Rushere is the site of the district headquarters. Mbarara High School (MHS), is a boys-only boarding middle and high school located in the city of Mbarara, in Mbarara District in Western Uganda. Alice Lakwena
Alice Auma (1956 – 17 January 2007) was an Acholi spirit-medium who, as the head of the Holy Spirit Movement (HSM), led a millennial rebellion against the Ugandan government forces of President Yoweri Museveni from August 1986 until November 1987. The primary spirit she purportedly channelled was that of a dead army officer called "Lakwena", meaning messenger, which the Acholi believe to be a manifestation of the Christian Holy Spirit. The combined persona of Alice Auma channelling the spirit Lakwena is often referred to as "Alice Lakwena". Auma's HSM was ultimately defeated in November 1987 by Ugandan forces led by Yoweri Museveni. Early life Alice Auma was born in 1956. Holy Spirit Movement
The Holy Spirit Movement (HSM) is a spiritual/religious movement and Ugandan rebel group centered around founder Alice Lakwena (Auma) and the spirits that possessed her. Alice, an ethnic Acholi, was purportedly directed to form the HSM by Lakwena, one of her spirits, in August 1986. The movement grew to adopt a military wing and waged a major but short-lived rebellion as part of the war in Uganda (1986–1994). It inspired Joseph Kony to begin his rebel group, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Technically, the Holy Spirit Movement was the political wing of Alice's organization and the Holy Spirit Mobile Force (HSMF) was the military wing, but there was no real separation of functions and the titles are used interchangeably. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa (born 15 September 1944) is a Ugandan politician and retired senior military officer who has been the 9th and current President of Uganda since 26 January 1986. Museveni spearheaded rebellions with aid of then current military general Tito Okello and general Bale Travor that toppled Ugandan presidents Milton Obote and Idi Amin before he captured power in 1986. The National Resistance Army (NRA), the military wing of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), was a rebel army that waged a guerrilla war, commonly referred to as the Ugandan Bush War or Luwero War, against the government of Milton Obote, and later that of Tito Okello.
