Patrick Flynn (composer)
Patrick Flynn (18 May 1936, Birmingham, England — 10 September 2008, Los Angeles, California) was a composer and conductor who was active in the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia. Flynn conducted for many prominent orchestras and festivals worldwide, including the BBC Orchestras and Singers, BBC, the Paris Opera, the Spoleto and Varna International Festivals, the Finnish National Opera, Holland Symfonia, Holland Simfonia and the orchestras of New Zealand, Rio de Janeiro, Cologne, Louisville, and San Diego. ''Don Quixote'' is a ballet in three acts, based on episodes taken from the famous novel ''Don Quixote de la Mancha'' by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus and first presented by Moscow's Bolshoi Ballet on . Petipa and Minkus revised the ballet into a more elaborate and expansive version in five acts and eleven scenes for the Mariinsky Ballet, first presented on at the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre of St. Petersburg. Ludwig Minkus
Ludwig Minkus (russian: link=no, Людвиг Минкус), also known as Léon Fyodorovich Minkus (23 March 1826, Vienna – 7 December 1917, Vienna), was a Jewish-Austrian composer of ballet music, a violin virtuoso and teacher. Minkus is noted for the music he composed while serving as the official Composer of Ballet Music to the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres in Russia. During his long career, he wrote for the original works and numerous revivals staged by the renowned Ballet Masters Arthur Saint-Léon and Marius Petipa. The Royal New Zealand Ballet is a ballet company based in Wellington, New Zealand. It was originally known as The New Zealand Ballet Company. History New Zealand Ballet was established in 1953 as an independent charitable trust by Royal Danish Ballet Principal Poul Gnatt, Beryl Nettleton, Bettina Edwards, another female dancer, and pianist Dorothea Franchi. ''Lasseter'' is an Australian musical with book and lyrics by Reg Livermore and music by Sandra McKenzie and Patrick Flynn. Described as a musical fable, it follows the spiritual journey of a disillusioned group of young people who leave the city and temptations of consumer society in search of a Utopia in the Australian outback. The title of the musical was inspired by the explorer Harold Bell Lasseter (but the musical is not about him). Reg Livermore later claimed the musical "didn't hit its mark (nobody's fault but my own I suppose; a script that was simultaneously earnest and ludicrous)." Development Livermore, best known at that time as an actor, started working on ''Lasseter'' about the same time he joined the cast of the Australian production of ''Hair''. Bushranger
Bushrangers were originally escaped convicts in the early years of the British settlement of Australia who used the bush as a refuge to hide from the authorities. By the 1820s, the term had evolved to refer to those who took up "robbery under arms" as a way of life, using the bush as their base. Bushranging thrived during the gold rush years of the 1850s and 1860s when the likes of Ben Hall, Bluecap, and Captain Thunderbolt roamed the country districts of New South Wales. These " Wild Colonial Boys", mostly Australian-born sons of convicts, were roughly analogous to British "highwaymen" and outlaws of the American Old West, and their crimes typically included robbing small-town banks and coach services. A rock opera is a collection of rock music songs with lyrics that relate to a common story. Rock operas are typically released as concept albums and are not scripted for acting, which distinguishes them from operas, although several have been adapted as rock musicals.
