Patrick Ferguson (drummer)
Patrick Ferguson is a drummer from Athens, Georgia. He has played with Five Eight, The Low Lows, the Psychedelic Furs, Southern Bitch, Music Hates You and Vic Chesnutt, among others. As a session musician has also appeared on albums by Vigilantes of Love founder Bill Mallonee and others. Ferguson is an identical twin. His brother, David, was the lead singer of Athens' The GoFigures He is also a recording engineer and has worked as an assistant to Warren Riker as well as acting as drum tech for the 2008 B-52's record ''Funplex ''Funplex'' is the seventh studio album (eighth overall) by The B-52s, recorded during 2006 and 2007. Athens, officially Athens–Clarke County, is a consolidated city-county and college town in the U.S. state of Georgia. Athens lies about northeast of downtown Atlanta, and is a satellite city of the capital. Five Eight (band)
Five Eight is a band from Athens, Georgia, USA. Since 1992, Five Eight has recorded eight Compact Discs. They previously toured with R.E.M. and have performed with Cheap Trick, The Ramones, Cracker, Pylon, and Seven Mary Three. The group is prominent in the Athens/Atlanta area and has played at Athens Recovery Fest. The band came together in 1988 in Athens when an earlier incarnation, known as The Reasonable Men, disbanded. Before settling on the name Five Eight, they played at least one show under the name The Helgrammites. The ninth Five Eight offering, titledYour God Is Dead To Me Now,"was recorded in 2010 and released in early 2011. Sean Dunn rejoined the group for this album. The Psychedelic Furs
The Psychedelic Furs are a post-punk band founded in London in February 1977. Led by lead vocalist Richard Butler and his brother Tim Butler on bass guitar, the Psychedelic Furs are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound, to later touching on new wave and hard rock. The band had several hits in their early career. In 1986, filmmaker John Hughes used their song "Pretty in Pink" for his film of the same name. They went on hiatus after they finished touring in 1992, but resumed in 2000 and continue to perform live. The band released '' Made of Rain'', their first studio album in nearly three decades, on 31 July 2020. Vic Chesnutt
James Victor Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 – December 25, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter from Athens, Georgia. His first album, little (album), ''Little'', was released in 1990. His commercial breakthrough came in 1996 with the release of ''Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation'', a charity record of alternative artists covering his songs. Chesnutt released 17 albums during his career, including two produced by Michael Stipe, and a 1996 release on Capitol Records, ''About to Choke''. His musical style has been described by Bryan Carroll of AllMusic as a "skewed, refracted version of Americana (music), Americana that is haunting, funny, poignant, and occasionally mystical, usually all at once". Injuries from a 1983 car accident left him partially paralyzed; he used a wheelchair and had limited use of his hands. Vigilantes Of Love
Vigilantes of Love is an American rock band fronted by Bill Mallonee, with many secondary players drawn from the musician pool in and around Athens, Georgia, United States. In its later manifestations in the later 1990s and early 2000s, Mallonee usually sang, played lead and rhythm guitar and harmonica, although in earlier bands he played drums. The band takes its name from the New Order song "Love Vigilantes," although their sound tends more to folk, Americana, and country rock than new wave. Their 2001 album ''Summershine'' also showed some movement toward Britpop and R.E.M.-style college rock, which would be more fully explored in Mallonee's solo career. Bill Mallonee
Bill Mallonee (born 1 January 1955) is an American singer-songwriter, most notably the songwriter and leader of Vigilantes of Love (sometimes stylized V.O.L.), an Americana, alt-country, rock band from Athens, Georgia. Early life Mallonee was born in Martinsville, Virginia, and grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He was raised Roman Catholic. He graduated with a degree in history from the University of Georgia in 1977. Family Mallonee and his first wife, Brenda, have two sons: Joshua and Joseph. Health Mallonee has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in his abdomen. Warren Riker
A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. Domestic warrens are artificial, enclosed establishment of animal husbandry dedicated to the raising of rabbits for meat and fur. The term evolved from the medieval Anglo-Norman concept of free warren, which had been, essentially, the equivalent of a hunting license for a given woodland. The B-52's
The B-52's, also styled as The B-52s, are an American new wave band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976. The original lineup consisted of Fred Schneider (vocals, percussion), Kate Pierson (vocals, keyboards, synth bass), Cindy Wilson (vocals, percussion), Ricky Wilson (guitar), and Keith Strickland (drums, guitar, keyboards). Ricky Wilson died of AIDS-related illness in 1985, and Strickland switched from drums to lead guitar. The band also added various members for albums and live performances. The group evoked a "thrift shop aesthetic", in Bernard Gendron's words, by drawing from 1950s and 1960s pop sources, trash culture, and rock and roll. ''Funplex'' is the seventh studio album (eighth overall) by The B-52s, recorded during 2006 and 2007. The album was released on March 25, 2008, by Astralwerks Records. It was the first album of new material the group had released since '' Good Stuff'' in 1992, although the band did record two new songs for their 1998 compilation album '' Time Capsule: Songs for a Future Generation''. Single releases The first single from the album was released digitally on January 29, 2008, and is the title track, "Funplex".
