Patrick Farrell (police Officer)
Patrick Farrell, Garda Síochána #8232 (born 6 June 1909, date of death unknown) was a recipient of the Scott Medal. Background Farrell was born at Doon, Loughrea, County Galway. He had been a farmer prior to joining the Gardaí on 8 March 1932. Incident at Kilsheelan Farrell was awarded the Scott Bronze Medal by Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan in November 1966. It was in recognition of his valour during a violent incident lasting over an hour, at Kilsheelan, County Tipperary, on 12 June 1965, when he subdued a mentally-ill man brandishing a shotgun. Patrick Farrell (born July 1, 1959) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American photojournalist for the ''Miami Herald''. His images from a brutal hurricane season in Haiti won the 2009, Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography. The Pulitzer Prize jurors described his package of 19 black-and-white photographs as "provocative, impeccably composed images of despair after Hurricane Ike and other lethal storms caused a humanitarian disaster in Haiti." Titled ''A People in Despair: Haiti's Year Without Mercy,'' the photos ranged from the flooded streets of Gonaives and the aftermath of a storm-related school collapse in Port-au-Prince to the deadly toll on the rural town of Cabaret, where young children drowned in rushing floodwaters. More than 800 Haitians died and more than 1 million were left homeless by the series of storms. Canada National Rugby League Team
The Canada national rugby league team represents Canada in international rugby league football tournaments. History 1987–2000: Origins Rugby league was first introduced to Canada in the 1900s but was quickly outlawed by Rugby Union officials and thus became Canadian Football. It was not until the late 1980s that rugby league was re-introduced to Canada at an amateur level, when a short-lived 4-team domestic competition, known as the Tri-Counties Rugby League, was established. Four teams competed in its first year, three in Canada and one in the U.S., the New York-based Adirondacks club. The Canadian national team played their first game in 1987 against the USA. They then played sporadically throughout the 1990s and participated in the 1995 and '96 Rugby League World Sevens and Rugby League Emerging Nations World Cup in 2000. Paddy Farrell
Paddy Farrell (1913-19 March 1987) was an Irish footballer who played for Bohemians and Hibernian during the 1930s. He was born in Athlone, Ireland. As an international he also played for both Ireland teams - the FAI XI and the IFA XI. At the outbreak of the Second World War, Farrell joined the RAF and after completing his service set up a dental practice in Hull. Club career Bohemians Farrell began his career playing junior football with Home Farm before joining Bohemians where his teammates included Fred Horlacher and Billy Jordan. He was initially restricted to the reserves until coach Bill Lacey spotted a fault in his running style. Intensive coaching corrected the problem and Farrell subsequently played a prominent role in Bohs FAI Cup run during the 1934–35 season.
