Nueces Hotel
The Nueces Hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas, was a luxury hotel that also served the city as a center of social and political life during the early 20th century and was for years the largest building in Texas south of San Antonio. Beginnings In the early 1900s, leading Corpus Christi citizens realized that the city needed such a hotel to attract tourists and business and decided to build one downtown. They chose the site of Hopson's meat processing plant and the Anderson family salt mill, including the Andersons' two-story house that also stood on the site. The six-story hotel, built by Ayers and Ayers Architects during a spate of municipal improvements, was completed in 1913, occupying the block between Water Street and Chaparral Streets and having its main entrance on Peoples Street. Patrick L. Dunn (March 17, 1931 – November 11, 1975) was an American professional basketball player. Dunn was selected in the 1956 NBA draft by the New York Knicks after a collegiate career at Utah State. In one season, which he played for the Philadelphia Warriors, Dunn averaged 2.5 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. Pat Dunn (politician)
Pat Dunn (born February 10, 1950) is a Canadian politician. He has represented the electoral district of Pictou Centre in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 2006 to 2009, and from 2013 to present, as a member of the Progressive Conservatives. He served as Minister of Health Promotion and Protection in the Executive Council of Nova Scotia. He was defeated by Ross Landry of the New Democrats in the 2009 election, but was reelected in the 2013 election. On August 31, 2021, Dunn was named Minister of Communities, Cultures, Tourism, and Heritage, as well as Minister of the Voluntary Sector and African Nova Scotian Affairs. The latter appointment caused backlash among some Nova Scotians since Dunn is white. Pat Dunn (''née'' Patricia Alice Thurston; 29 January 1933 – 11 July 1999) was among the first women to officially qualify as a football referee. Early life Pat Dunn was born in London in 1933, the daughter of Lewis Henry Thurston (1893–1972) and his wife, Rebecca, ''née'' Stebbings, who died when Pat was one year old. The family moved from south London to Weymouth, Dorset, in the early Second World War. Pat became an enthusiastic footballer when growing up. After the family had moved again to Newbury, Berkshire, as a 15-year-old she joined Stroud Green Football Club – the only girl in the team. Personal life In 1952 Pat married Alfred John (Alf) Dunn (1927–2000), a skilled labourer and public lighting attendant from Weymouth, who was also a keen footballer. Lieutenant-General Patrick Oswald Dunn (29 May 1911–16 September 1977) was an Indian Army general. He commanded the I Coprs during the Indo-Pak War of 1965 for which he was awarded the third-highest award of India - the Padma Bhushan. Career Dunn took a law degree from Cambridge University. He was commissioned in the British Indian Army on 15 July 1938. As was customary, on 10 August 1938 he was attached to a battalion of a regular British Army regiment, the 2nd Worcestershire Regiment, for a period of one year prior to his official appointment to the Indian Army. Joining the 10th Baluch Regiment, Dunn attended Staff College, Camberley in 1945, and commanded a Gorkha battalion from November 1946. As 10 Baluch was allocated to the Pakistan Army following Indian independence and Partition, he transferred to the 3rd Gorkha Rifles, and became officiating commander of an infantry brigade in January 1949. Patrick James Dunn (born 5 February 1950) is a Catholic prelate. He was the 11th Bishop of Auckland, New Zealand from 1994 to 2021. Early life Dunn was born in London and is the eldest son of the late H. P. ("Pat") Dunn, a prominent Auckland obstetrician. Dunn was considerably influenced by his father and his mother, June Dunn, a former school teacher, in later deciding to become a priest and being appointed a bishop. He was educated at St Michael's School, Remuera, Sacred Heart College, Auckland, from 1961 to 1967, and the University of Auckland in 1968. Irina Patsi Dunn (born 17 March 1948) is an Australian writer, social activist and filmmaker, who served in the Australian Senate between 1988 and 1990. Born in Shanghai, Dunn grew up in Australia and studied at the University of Sydney. In 1988 she became a Australian Senate, senator representing the Nuclear Disarmament Party. She was chosen following the disqualification from parliament of the man originally elected from that party in the 1987 election, (William) Robert Wood, Robert Wood, who was ruled ineligible as he did not hold Australian citizenship. Following her refusal to resign to allow Wood to return to the Senate once he had become a citizen, she was expelled from the party and sat as an independent. She was defeated at the 1990 election.
