Patrick Dougherty (21 November 1931 in Kensington, New South Wales – 30 August 2010 in Bathurst, New South Wales), an Australian suffragan bishop, was the seventh bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bathurst, serving for 25 years from 1983 until his retirement in 2008. Early years and background The second of four sons (three of whom became priests) born to William and Madge Dougherty, Dougherty was educated at Our Lady of the Rosary school, Kensington and Waverley College, before completing his secondary education at St Columba's College in Springwood in 1948. He commenced studying for the priesthood, and in 1950 progressed to St Patrick's Seminary, Manly and then Propaganda College, Rome where he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Pietro Sigismondi on 7 December 1954. Patrick Dougherty (born about 1844, date of death unknown) was a Union Navy sailor in the American Civil War and a recipient of the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions at the Battle of Mobile Bay. Born in about 1844 in Ireland, Dougherty immigrated to the United States and was living in New York when he joined the U.S. Navy. He served during the Civil War as a landsman on the . At the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, ''Lackawanna'' engaged the at close range and the powder boy at the gun Dougherty was manning became a casualty. Dougherty voluntarily took over the powder boy's duties, supplying gunpowder to his artillery piece throughout the battle. Patrick Dougherty (born June 30, 1948) is an American Democratic politician. Due to term limits, he retired from political life in 2007 after nearly 30 years of service in the Missouri General Assembly. Education and background Patrick Dougherty was born in Decatur, Illinois. He attended Quincy College and graduated with a BA degree and also attended Kenrick Theological Seminary. Prior to entering politics, he was a caseworker for the Department of Family Services. Political career In 1978, Dougherty ran for State Representative in a South St. Louis district close to Tower Grove Park. Patrick Henry "Patsy" Dougherty (October 27, 1876 – April 30, 1940) was a Major League Baseball outfielder from 1902 to 1911. He played for the Boston Americans (now the Boston Red Sox), the New York Highlanders (now the New York Yankees), and the Chicago White Sox. On July 29, 1903, Dougherty became the second Red Sox player (then known as the Americans) to hit for the cycle. Patrick Dougherty (born 1945) is an American environmental artist. He is best known for his sculptures and installations built with sticks and saplings. Life and career Patrick Dougherty was born in Oklahoma in 1945 and raised in North Carolina. He earned a B.A. in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1967 and an M.A. in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Iowa in 1969. He later returned to the University of North Carolina to study art history and sculpture. Dougherty's first work, “Maple Body Wrap,” was included in the North Carolina Biennial Artists’ Exhibition in 1982. Since that time he has constructed over 300 works using stick and saplings. His sculptures are temporary in that the materials disintegrate and break down over time. Patrick Dougherty (born September 2, 1985) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the Special teams coordinator at Texas A&M University. He was previously the Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends coach for Duke University. His previous coaching stops include Defiance College, Lindsey Wilson College, Northwestern University, and nine seasons at Ball State University.
