Patrick Campbell (British Army Officer, Born 1684)
Lieutenant-General Patrick Campbell ( – 18 February 1751), of South Hall, Argyll, also known as Peter Campbell, was a British Army officer, and Scottish Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1722 and 1741. Early life Campbell was the second son of Duncan Campbell of Whitestone, Kintyre in Argyll. His mother Barbara was a daughter of Hector McAlester of Loup, Argyll. He was probably educated at Glasgow in 1690. He was an officer in Dutch service from about 1704 to 1708 and became major in 4th (Scots) Horse Guards in 1711, and a lieutenant colonel in 1712. He was appointed gentleman of the buttery in 1721 and retained the post for the rest of his life. Vice-Admiral Sir Patrick Campbell, KCB (1773 – 13 October 1841) was a senior British Royal Navy officer of the early nineteenth century who was distinguished by his service in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. During his service in a number of ships in the Mediterranean and English Channel, Campbell saw several small ship actions and was successful in every one, even surviving a double shipwreck in 1805. Following the war, Campbell retired for ten years before returning to service, later commanding at the Cape of Good Hope. Naval career Campbell was born in 1773, the son of Colonel John and Colina Campbell of Melfort, Argyll. One of his younger brothers was to become the celebrated British Army general Sir Colin Campbell and another was General Frederick Campbell. Major-General Patrick Campbell (1779–1857) was a Scottish army officer and diplomat born in Duntrune. Patrick Campbell was born into a military family. His father was Neil Campbell (1736–1791), and his two older brothers were James Campbell (1773–1799) and Neil Campbell (1776–1827), all of whom served in the military. Patrick Campbell's service started under Ralph Abercromby in the West Indies. In 1800 he became Brigade Major to the Royal Artillery in Gibraltar. In 1809, he volunteered to serve with the Spanish Army in the Peninsular War, and took part in several battles, notably the Battle of Talavera. In 1811 he raised and commanded a Spanish Light Infantry Regiment, and in 1813–14 he commanded a Spanish Brigade in the field and was promoted Lieutenant Colonel and awarded the Order of Charles III as well as the Laureate Cross of Saint Ferdinand. Patrick Gordon Campbell, 3rd Baron Glenavy (6 June 1913 – 10 November 1980) was an Irish journalist, humorist and television personality. Life and career Campbell was born in Dublin, the first son of Charles Campbell, 2nd Baron Glenavy and Beatrice, Lady Glenavy (the artist Beatrice Elvery). He was educated at Rossall School (which he loathed) and then Pembroke College, Oxford, but left Oxford without completing his degree. Patrick Campbell (1977–1999) was a Volunteer (Irish republican), volunteer in the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) died on 10 October 1999 after being wounded during a conflict in Dublin, Republic of Ireland between the INLA and drug dealers. Background Campbell was born in New Barnsley, West Belfast, Northern Ireland and moved to Dublin to work in the building industry. At some point, he joined the INLA, an Irish republican paramilitary group. Dispute In the summer of 1999, the INLA became involved in a violent dispute with criminals in West Dublin. Pat Campbell (born April 28, 1977 in Niagara Falls, Ontario) is a former professional indoor lacrosse goaltender who played for the Toronto Rock, Columbus Landsharks, Rochester Knighthawks, Calgary Roughnecks, and Edmonton Rush in the National Lacrosse League. In his NLL career, he won the Champion's Cup three times with the Rock (1999, 2000, 2011) and once with the Roughnecks (2009).
