Patricia Faure
Patricia Faure (April 8, 1928 – October 21, 2008) was an American art dealer, photographer, and gallery owner, based in Los Angeles. Early life and education Patricia Enk was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the youngest of three daughters. Her father died when she was very young; Patricia moved to California with her mother and sister in 1943. She attended Hollywood High School, and volunteered at the Modern Institute of Art in Beverly Hills as a teenager. As a young woman she lived in New York City for several years, studying at the New School for Social Research and working as a model for Ford Models. Career During her time living in New York, Patricia Enk met and worked with many New York-based artists of the 1950s, including Robert Motherwell, Larry Rivers, Joseph Cornell, Francesco Scavullo. Maxwell Hendler
Maxwell Hendler (born 1938) is an American painter. In 1975, he became the first contemporary artist to have pictures in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1938, Hendler moved to Los Angeles in 1955. He received a BA in 1960 and an MA in 1962 from the University of California, Los Angeles. He did post-graduate studies in painting at UCLA between 1962 and 1964. In 1967, Hendler became a full-time instructor of the arts at California State University at Northridge. In 1969, he became an associate professor at California State University at Long Beach in the School of Fine Arts. Hendler's work from the 1960s to the mid-1970s was exemplified by a precise approach produced from direct observation of his subjects, not by working from photographs. Katy Stone (born 1969) is an American visual artist recognized for her installation-based artworks evoking organic forms, patterns, and natural phenomena. Deborah Butterfield
Deborah Kay Butterfield (born May 7, 1949) is an American sculptor. Along with her artist-husband John Buck, she divides her time between a farm in Bozeman, Montana, and studio space in Hawaii. She is known for her sculptures of horses made from found objects, like metal, and especially pieces of wood. Background Born the same day as the 75th running of the Kentucky Derby (May 7, 1949), Butterfield partly credits that birthdate as an inspiration for her subject matter; she has also said that she would have preferred to work in the female form, but that her mentor Manuel Neri dominated that form. Robert Yarber
Robert Yarber (born Dallas, Texas, 1948) is an American painter and Professor of Art at Pennsylvania State University. He received a BFA from Cooper Union in 1971, and an MFA from Louisiana State University in 1973. Yarber gained international attention when his work was included in "Paradise Lost/Paradise Regained: American Visions of the New Decade", an exhibit organized by the New Museum for display in the American Pavilion at the 41st Venice Biennale in 1984. Franz Kline
Franz Kline (May 23, 1910 – May 13, 1962) was an American painter. He is associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1940s and 1950s. Kline, along with other action painters like Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, John Ferren, and Lee Krasner, as well as local poets, dancers, and musicians came to be known as the informal group, the New York School. Ellen Phelan
Ellen Phelan (born 1943) is an American artist known especially as a painter of formalist abstractions, psychologically charged scenes enacted by dolls, and landscapes. Background and education Phelan was born in 1943 and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She received her B.A. and M.F.A. degrees from Wayne State University, Phelan worked as a substitute teacher in the Detroit public school system and worked in the Detroit Museum of Art as an assistant to curator Sam Wagstaff. She also worked with a group of Detroit artists to establish the cooperative Willis Gallery. Phelan relocated to New York City in 1973.
