Patricia Esquivias
Patricia Esquivias is a Venezuelan-born Spanish artist who works primarily with video. She was born in 1979 in Caracas. Esquivias received her BA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 2001 and her MFA from California College of the Arts in San Francisco in 2007. Esquivias' work is often characterized as a form of story telling, and Esquivias often acts as narrator, using her own voice as narration in her videos. Many of Esquivias' videos center around themes of history and memory. Exhibitions Esquivias has had shows in Madrid Los Angeles, New York City, Marrakech and other cities around the world. Her work is in the collection of the Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid. The New Museum of Contemporary Art, founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker, is a museum in New York City at 235 Bowery, on Manhattan's Lower East Side. History The museum originally opened in a space in the Graduate Center of the then-named New School for Social Research at 65 Fifth Avenue. The New Museum remained there until 1983, when it rented and moved to the first two and a half floors of the Astor Building at 583 Broadway in the SoHo neighborhood. The Institute of Contemporary Art or ICA is a contemporary art museum in Philadelphia. The museum is associated with the University of Pennsylvania, and is located on its campus. Midway Contemporary Art is a non-profit arts organization located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Its gallery and research library are located in the Sheridan and Marcy Homes neighborhoods of the city, respectively. Both are free and open to the public.
