Paternò ( scn, Patennò) is a southern Italian town and ''comune'' of the Metropolitan City of Catania, Sicily. With a population (2016) of 48,009, it is the third municipality of the province after Catania and Acireale. Geography Paternò borders with the municipalities of Belpasso, Biancavilla, Catenanuova ( EN), Centuripe (EN), Ragalna, Ramacca and Santa Maria di Licodia. Its only hamlet (''frazione'') is the village of Sferro. Within Paterno there is a geologic feature named 'Salinelle', a place where small mud volcanoes emerge from cracks in the ground. This area in which the Salinelle surfaces includes an archeological site currently uncovering evidence of Roman baths previously built on and thought to have used the Salinelle mud. Paterno Castle
The Castle of Paterno ( es, Castillo de Paterno), also known as Castle of Albaladejo, is a fortress located in the town of Albaladejo, in the province of Ciudad Real, Spain. History The castle is of Ancient Rome, Roman origin, later conquered by the Arabs and re-built in the 13th century. It belonged to the Orden of Santiago, who helped to maintain the castle. Design It is a small rectangular fortress. The central area has not been preserved and currently there are only two towers of the castle left. Current situation It is in a state of ruin. The castle falls under the protection of the Declaration of the Decree of April 22, 1949, and Law 16/1985 on Spanish Historical Heritage. Civita Castellana is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Viterbo, north of Rome. Mount Soracte lies about to the south-east. History Civita Castellana was settled during the Iron Age by the Italic people of the Falisci, who called it "Falerii." After the Faliscan defeat against the Romans, a new city was built by the latter, about away, and called "Falerii Novi." The Paterno Castle was a residential castle on Riverside Drive and Northern Boulevard (now Cabrini Boulevard), between 181st and 185th Streets in the Hudson Heights neighborhood of Washington Heights, Upper Manhattan, New York City, which was built in 1905 by Charles V. Paterno and demolished by him in 1938. The Castle Village apartment complex is now located on the property.
