Patang (film)
''Patang'' (English: ''Kite'') is a 1993 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Goutam Ghose, starring Shabana Azmi, Shafiq Syed, Om Puri and Rabi Ghosh. It is set in small railway station near Gaya and shows the lives of people in illegal slums near it. The film was shot in Gaya and Manpur in Bihar. At the 41st National Film Awards (for 1993), ''Patang'' won the award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. At the Taormina Film Fest, Shabana Azmi won the Best Actress Award. Child actor Shafiq Syed, who played the lead role of Krishna (Chaipau) in Mira Nair's Academy Award-nominated film ''Salaam Bombay!'' (1988), acted in the film. This was the only other one he did. Goutam Ghose
Goutam Ghose (also spelled Gautam Ghosh born 24 July 1950) is an Indian film director, Actor, music director and cinematographer, who works primarily in Bengali cinema. He is the only Indian to have received the "Vittorio Di Sica" Award, Italy, in 1997. In 2012, the Government of West Bengal honored him with the Banga Bibhushan for lifetime achievement. Acknowledging his contributions to film, he was awarded the Knighthood of the Star of the Italian Solidarity in July 2006. Early life Goutam Ghose was born on 24 July 1950 in Calcutta, India to Santana and Prof. Himangshu Kumar Ghose. His kindergarten days began at the St John's Diocesan School (now an all-girls school). Abul Khair was a Bangladeshi television and film actor. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor four times for his roles in the films ''Dohon'' (1984), ''Rajlakshmi Srikanta'' (1987), ''Onno Jibon'' (1995) and ''Dukhai'' (1997).
