Pat Roberts (golfer)
Margaret Patricia Roberts (20 April 1921 – 21 August 2013) was a Welsh amateur golfer. She won the Welsh Ladies' Amateur Championship four times between 1956 and 1969. Golf career Roberts won the Welsh Ladies' Amateur Championship four times, in 1956, 1959, 1963 and 1969, and was runner-up six times, in 1952, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1962 and 1966. In 1950, Roberts made her debut for Wales in the Women's Home Internationals. She made her final appearance in 1970, playing every year except 1952 and 1954. She also played for Wales in the 1964 Espirito Santo Trophy, when the four home nations competed separately, and in the European Ladies' Team Championship in 1965, 1967 and 1969. Roberts held a number of positions in the Welsh Ladies' Golf Union, including chairman, secretary and president. She was also a vice captain of Curtis Cup and Vagliano Trophy teams. The 1969 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 3–6 July at Halmstad Golf Club in Tylösand, Sweden. It was the sixth women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The tournament was played at the North course at Halmstad Golf Club in Tylösand, Halmstad Municipality, 9 kilometers west of Halmstad city center in Halland County, Sweden. The club was founded in 1930. Its first 18-hole course was constructed by Rafael Sundblom and approved in 1938. A new course was inaugurated in 1967, when nine new holes were constructed, which together with the last nine holes of the old course formed the new North Course. The 1967 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 4–9 July at Penina Golf and Resort in Portimão, Algarve, Portugal. It was the fifth women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The championship course, designed by Sir Henry Cotton and situated on the south coast of Portugal, 180 kilometres south of the capital of the country, Lisbon, was set up with par 75. It was warm and sunny during the tournament. Format All participating teams played two qualification rounds of stroke play, counting the three best scores out of up to four players for each team. Espirito Santo Trophy
The Espirito Santo Trophy (World Women's Amateur Team Championships) is a biennial world amateur team golf championship for women organised by the International Golf Federation. The inaugural event was held in 1964. It was instituted by the French Golf Federation in an agreement with the United States Golf Association. It was planned by Lally Segard, at the time known as Vicomtesse de Saint Sauveur, from France and Mrs. Henri Prunaret from America. Segard also asked her friends Ricardo and Silvia Espirito Santo, from Portugal, to donate a trophy for the event, which they did. They had originally bought the golden cup, which had belonged to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, for an international Portuguese event that was not played anymore. Vagliano Trophy
The Vagliano Trophy is a biennial women's amateur golf tournament. It is co-organised by The R&A and the European Golf Association and is contested by teams representing "Great Britain and Ireland" and the "Continent of Europe". It is played in odd-numbered years; the Curtis Cup being played in even-numbered years. The event started in 1931 as a match between Great Britain and France. It was played annually from 1931 to 1939 and from 1947 to 1949, before becoming a biennial event from 1949 to 1957. Britain won 15 of the 16 matches with the 1934 match being tied. From 1949 to 1957 Great Britain had also played a biennial match against Belgium. In 1959 the two matches were replaced by one with Britain playing a team representing the Continent of Europe, the Vagliano Trophy being used for the new event.
