Pat Palmer (rugby Union)
Patrick Palmer (born November 6, 1962 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) is a former Canadian national rugby player. Palmer played a total of 17 games for Canada, including 3 matches in the 1987 Rugby World Cup, where he scored the first try against Tonga, as well as 3 matches in the 1991 Rugby World Cup. He also coached the 1994 UBC Old Boys Ravens squad which won its fifth provincial title against Cowichan with some supporters even taking a helicopter to the game on Vancouver Island and briefly hovering overhead to catch a bird’s-eye view. In 2001, Palmer coached Canada Under-17 and Canada Sevens The Canada Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament held every March. Tonga National Rugby Union Team
The Tonga national rugby union team ( to, timi feohi ʻakapulu fakafonua ʻa Tonga) represents Tonga in men's international rugby union. The team is nicknamed ''Ikale Tahi (Sea Eagles)''. The 1991 Rugby World Cup was the second edition of the Rugby World Cup, and was jointly hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and France: at the time, the five European countries who participated in the Five Nations Championship. This was the first Rugby World Cup to be staged in the northern hemisphere, with England the hosts of the final. Also for the first time, qualifying competitions were introduced as the number of entrants had increased from 16 nations four years before to a total of 33 countries. The eight quarter-finalists from 1987 qualified automatically with the remaining eight spots contested through qualifiers by 25 countries. The 1987 Rugby World Cup was the first Rugby World Cup. It was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia – New Zealand hosted 21 matches (17 pool stage matches, two quarter-finals, the third-place play-off and the final) while Australia hosted 11 matches (seven pool matches, two quarter-finals and both semi-finals). The tournament was won by New Zealand, who were the strong favourites and won all their matches comfortably. New Zealand defeated France 29–9 in the final at Eden Park in Auckland. Rugby football is the collective name for the team sports of rugby union and rugby league. Canadian football and, to a lesser extent, American football were once considered forms of rugby football, but are seldom now referred to as such.
