Pat McNamara (Australian Politician)
Patrick John McNamara (born Melbourne, 11 August 1949) is a former Australian politician who was a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, representing Benalla for the National Party from 1982 to 2000. From 1988 to 1999, he was leader of the National Party in Victoria and was Deputy Premier of Victoria under Jeff Kennett from 1992 to 1999. He held several ministerial positions in the Kennett government, including Minister for Agriculture and Resources, Minister for Tourism, Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Minister for Corrections. During his tenure as Deputy Premier, Kennett's Liberals actually held a majority in their own right. Although Kennett did not need the support of McNamara's Nationals, the coalition was retained. Following the defeat of the Liberal-National coalition at the 1999 Victorian election, McNamara resigned the party leadership. Pat McNamara (1938 – 2016) was an Irish politician who served as the mayor of Galway from 1982 to 1983. Background A native of the Claddagh, McNamara worked for Connacth Mineral Company and played with Galway Rovers and Galway Town. He was elected to Galway Corporation in 1973 and was to spend the next seventeen years in politics. Elected Mayor in 1982, he visited one of the town's twins, Lorient, as well as Boston and Derry. William Patrick McNamara (10 January 1912 – 11 April 1983) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne and South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). THe son of Carlton footballer, Bill McNamara, McNamara was a wingman and half-forward, originally from St Pat's in East Melbourne. He appeared in preliminary finals for Melbourne in 1937 and 1938. Having received a clearance, McNamara joined South Melbourne for the 1939 VFL season The 1939 VFL season was the 43rd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 22 April until 30 September, and comprised an .... Rear-Admiral Sir Patrick Macnamara KBE, CB (11 January 1886 – 4 April 1957) was a Royal Navy officer. Naval career Educated at Bradfield College and the training ship HMS ''Britannia'', Macnamara joined the Royal Navy in January 1901. He served as gunnery officer in the battlecruiser HMS ''Tiger'' during the First World War. Promoted to captain on 30 June 1925, he was given command of the cruiser HMS ''Effingham'' in October 1927 and then the battleship HMS ''Nelson'' in September 1933 before retiring in 1936. He was recalled in 1939, promoted to rear-admiral and served as Flag Officer, Scapa Flow throughout the Second World War.
