Patronella Zingisa "Pat" Lekker is a South Africa politician. A member of the African National Congress, she is currently serving as the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Life and career Born in Cape Town, Lekker still currently resides in Cape Town. She graduated from Sizamile Secondary. She is well known in the ANC's Dullah Omar region. Lekker was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in 2014 and took office as a Member on 21 May 2014. Western Cape Provincial Parliament
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) is the legislature of the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is located at 7 Wale Street in Cape Town. The Provincial Parliament, along with the other provincial legislatures of South Africa, exists by virtue of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of South Africa and Chapter 3 of the Constitution of the Western Cape. It is unicameral, and consists of 42 members elected by a system of party-list proportional representation. The Western Cape is unique amongst the provinces of South Africa in calling its legislature the "Provincial Parliament" and the members Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs). Cameron Muir Dugmore (born 16 September 1963) is a South African politician who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. A member of the African National Congress, he has been serving as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since 2014. He previously served in the provincial parliament from 1994 to 2009. He served as the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport from 2008 to 2009, and as the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Education from 2004 to 2008. Philippi, Cape Town
Philippi is a large urban and semi-urban area in Cape Town's Cape Flats region, in the Western Cape, South Africa. It comprises the Philippi Horticultural Area to the west, and the neighbourhoods of Brown's Farm, Philippi East and Samora Machel located within its eastern half. The neighbourhoods of Gugulethu and Nyanga are located to its north. The horticultural area is sparsely populated compared to the surrounding city and contains many farms. History The nomadic Khoi pastoralists once used the land for grazing their animals and hunting for food. 2024 Western Cape Provincial Election
The 2024 Western Cape provincial election was held on 29 May 2024, concurrently with the 2024 South African general election, to elect the 42 members of the List of members of the 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament, 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Background The previous provincial election was won by the ruling Democratic Alliance (South Africa), Democratic Alliance (DA), but with a reduced majority of 55.45%, down from 59.38% in the 2014 election. The party lost two seats and achieved a majority of 24 seats in the legislature. The Official Opposition African National Congress (ANC) declined from 32.89% to 28.64%, and also lost two seats. Xhosa People
