Pat Glendon
Patrick Glendon (10 March 1895 – 22 June 1967) was an Irish hurler. Usually lining out as at corner-back, he was a member of the Kilkenny team that won the 1922 All-Ireland Championship. Glendon had a lengthy career with Clomanto, however, he had little in terms of club success. After being selected for the Kilkenny senior team in 1922, he was a regular member of the team at various times over the following five championship seasons. He won his first Leinster medal in his debut season in 1922 before later winning his sole All-Ireland medal after Kilkenny's defeat of Tipperary in the final. Glendon won a second Leinster medal in 1926. Glendon was married to Johanna (née Moriarty). Prior to his hurling career he was an active member of the Old IRA during the War of Independence. Clomanto GAA
Clomanto GAA was a Gaelic Athletic Association club located near Urlingford, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was primarily concerned with the game of hurling. History Located in the Clomanto area, on the Kilkenny-Tipperary border, Clomanto operated at junior level for much of its existence. The club hosted a game against Freshford during the GAA's Gaelic Sunday series of events on 4 August 1918. Clomanto won the Northern Kilkenny JHC title in 1922, in what was their only victory in an adult final in any grade in the club's history. The club lost the subsequent Kilkenny JHC final to Clonmore. After a period of decline the club amalgamated with Urlingford under the new name of Emeralds in 1972. 1926 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1926 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 40th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 18 April 1926 and ended on 24 October 1926. The championship was won by Cork who secured the title following a 4-6 to 2-0 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 8th All-Ireland title. Tipperary were the defending champions but were defeated by Cork in the Munster final. Irish War Of Independence
The Irish War of Independence () or Anglo-Irish War was a guerrilla war fought in Ireland from 1919 to 1921 between the Irish Republican Army (IRA, the army of the Irish Republic) and British forces: the British Army, along with the quasi-military Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) and its paramilitary forces the Auxiliaries and Ulster Special Constabulary (USC). It was part of the Irish revolutionary period. In April 1916, Irish republicans launched the Easter Rising against British rule and proclaimed an Irish Republic. Although it was crushed after a week of fighting, the Rising and the British response led to greater popular support for Irish independence. Irish Republican Army (1919–1922)
The Irish Republican Army (IRA; ga, Óglaigh na hÉireann) was an Irish republican revolutionary paramilitary organisation. The ancestor of many groups also known as the Irish Republican Army, and distinguished from them as the "Old IRA", it was descended from the Irish Volunteers, an organisation established on 25 November 1913 that staged the Easter Rising in April 1916.
