Pat Booth (journalist)
Patrick John Booth (9 September 1929 – 31 January 2018) was a New Zealand print journalist and writer. He is particularly noted for his coverage of the Arthur Allan Thomas case, and the Mr Asia crime syndicates. Biography Booth was born on 9 September 1929 in Levin and raised in Hawera. His first journalism job was on the ''Hawera Star'' in 1947. In 1950, he became a general reporter for ''The Auckland Star'', in the first of what became several periods working at the paper, covering everything from sports to politics and crime. In May 1971, Bishop Delargey of Auckland appointed Booth the editor (in succession to the conservative Denzil Meuli) of the Catholic newspaper ''Zealandia'' – the first layman to be appointed its editor. Levin, New Zealand
Levin (; mi, Taitoko) is the largest town and seat of the Horowhenua District, in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located east of Lake Horowhenua, around 95 km north of Wellington and 50 km southwest of Palmerston North. The town has a population of making it the 30th largest urban area in New Zealand, and third largest in Manawatū-Whanganui behind Palmerston North and Whanganui. Levin is a service centre for the surrounding rural area, and a centre for light manufacturing. To the west of the main town lies Lake Horowhenua, which covers some 3.9 sq/km. Waitakere City Council
Waitākere City was a territorial authority in West Auckland, New Zealand; it was governed by the Waitākere City Council from 1989 to 2010. It was New Zealand's fifth-largest city, with an annual growth of about 2%. In 2010 the council was amalgamated with the other authorities of the Auckland Region to form the current Auckland Council. The name "Waitākere" comes from the Waitākere River in the Waitākere Ranges. History Before being settled by Europeans, the Māori iwi Te Kawerau a Maki and Ngāti Whātua had already settled in the Waitakere area. In the 1830s, European settlers started to arrive, concentrating on timber milling, kauri gum digging and flax milling, with brickworks and pottery industries following later.
