Coptic Calendar
The Coptic calendar, also called the Alexandrian calendar, is a liturgical calendar used by the Coptic Orthodox Church and also used by the farming populace in Egypt. It was used for fiscal purposes in Egypt until the adoption of the Gregorian calendar on 11 September (6 Nesi) 1875. This calendar is based on the ancient Egyptian calendar. To avoid the calendar creep of the latter (which contained only 365 days each year, year after year, so that the seasons shifted about one day every four years), a reform of the ancient Egyptian calendar was introduced at the time of Ptolemy III (Decree of Canopus, in 238 BC) which consisted of adding an extra day every fourth year. Pashons ( cop, Ⲡⲁϣⲟⲛⲥ, ), also known as Pachon ( grc-gre, Παχών, ''Pakhṓn'') and Bachans. (, ''Bashans''), is the ninth month of the ancient Egyptian and Coptic calendars. It lasts between May 9 and June 7 of the Gregorian calendar. Saint Theoclia
Saint Theoclia is an Egyptian martyr and saint from the 4th century AD. Saint Theoclia was the wife of Saint Justus. They were separated at Alexandria, at which point Saint Justus was sent to Ansena where he was eventually martyred, while Saint Theoclia was sent to Sa El Hagar. The governor of the city attempted to persuade her to renounce Christianity, but she refused. She was subsequently beaten until her flesh was torn, and then placed in prison. Her hagiography states that an angel appeared to her in prison, comforted her, and healed her wounds. Saint Paphnutius the Bishop is an Egyptian saint from the tenth century AD. He was initially a monk in the Nitrian Desert. He exerted harsh asceticism and worship, ate dry beans, and fasted for many days in a row. He was later ordained a priest, and remained in the wilderness for 35 years.
