Paseo De César Chávez
The Paseo de César Chávez is a Pedestrian zone, pedestrian paseo in Downtown San Jose, spanning across San Jose State University's campus. History Paseo de César Chávez was developed from 1994–1996 by San Jose State University, along with the Paseo de San Carlos and the 9th Street Paseo, as a part of a major campus revitalization plan. The paseo was created by the pedestrianization of San Carlos Street between 4th and 10th Streets. It was named in honor of the famed California civil rights activist César Chávez. Paseo de César Chávez was laid out to serve as the primary north-south pedestrian axis through San Jose State University's campus. Because of the Diaz Compean Student Union, it has become an important focal point for events and gatherings on the SJSU campus. The Plaza de César Chávez is an urban plaza and park in Downtown San Jose, California. The plaza's origins date to 1797 as the ''plaza mayor'' of the Alta California, Spanish ''Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe'', making it the oldest public space in Northern California. The plaza was rededicated after Californian civil rights activist César Chávez in 1993. The Plaza de César Chávez is one of San Jose's primary civic spaces and the historic center of Downtown San Jose. Judy Baca
Judith Francisca Baca (born September 20, 1946) is an American artist, activist, and professor of Chicano studies, world arts, and cultures based at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is the co-founder and artistic director of the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) in Venice, California. Baca is the director of the mural project that created the Great Wall of Los Angeles, which was the largest known communal mural project in the world as of 2018. The Paseo de San Antonio is a Pedestrian zone, pedestrian paseo in Downtown San Jose, spanning from Plaza de César Chávez in the west to San Jose State University's campus in the east. History The paseo was developed in 1988 by the San José Redevelopment Agency, with the pedestrianization of San Antonio Street eastwards from Plaza de César Chávez. Paseo de San Antonio was laid out to serve as a pedestrian axis through central Downtown.
