Pascal Beaupré
Pascal Beaupré (born March 20, 1983) is a Canadian politician from Quebec. He was an Action démocratique du Québec Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Joliette from 2007 to 2008. Born in Joliette, Quebec, Beaupré graduated with a bachelor's degree in law from the Université de Montréal and was admitted to the bar in 2005. He practised law for the next two years. Prior to being a member of the ADQ, he was a president of the federal Liberal Party of Canada riding association in Joliette. Beaupré was first elected in 2007 with 37% of the vote. Parti Québécois star candidate Claude Duceppe, the brother of Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe, finished second with 35% of the vote. He took office on April 12, 2007. Joliette
Joliette is a city in southwest Quebec, Canada. It is approximately northeast of Montreal, on the L'Assomption River and is the seat of the Regional County Municipality of Joliette. It is considered to be a part of the North Shore of Greater Montreal. The city is home to the Joliette Art Museum, whose works of art include paintings, sculptures, paper artwork and a large collection of art from the French Middle Ages. Joliette has 3 Francophone high schools and 1 Anglophone high school, as well as the Joliette campus of the Cégep régional de Lanaudière. It was founded as L'Industrie by businessman Barthélemy Joliette in 1823 and was incorporated as a city in 1863. The city's economy is mainly in the manufacturing and service sectors. Gilles Duceppe
Gilles Duceppe (; born July 22, 1947) is a Canadian retired politician, proponent of the Quebec sovereignty movement and former leader of the Bloc Québécois. He was a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Canada for over 20 years and was the leader of the sovereigntist Bloc Québécois for 15 years in three stints: 1996, 1997-2011 and in 2015. He was Leader of the Official Opposition in the Parliament of Canada from March 17, 1997, to June 1, 1997. He resigned as party leader after the 2011 election, in which he lost his own seat to New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate Hélène Laverdière and his party suffered a heavy defeat; however, he returned four years later to lead the party into the 2015 election. The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125.
