Parwan, Victoria
Parwan is a locality in Victoria, Australia, west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Melton and the Shire of Moorabool local government areas. Parwan recorded a population of 188 at the 2021 census. Predominantly Parwan lies within the local government area (LGA) of the Shire of Moorabool, but some of Parwan lies within the LGA of the City of Melton. History Parwan railway station opened on the Ararat railway line in 1886 and closed in the 1980s. Parwan Railway Station Post Office opened on 1 September 1886, was renamed Parwan in 1914 and closed in 1962. Parwan Valley The Parwan Valley lies between the Brisbane Ranges, Werribee Gorge State Park and the You Yangs. Its nearest town is Bacchus Marsh. The Valley was used as farming land from the mid-1850s onwards, but after several decades of agricultural abuse the soils became extremely saline causing erosion all around the valley. The Shire of Bacchus Marsh was a local government area about west of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1862 until 1994. You Yangs
The You Yangs are a series of granite ridges that rise up to above the flat and low-lying Werribee Plain in southern Victoria, Australia, approximately due west of the rural town of Little River, southwest of Melbourne CBD and north of Geelong. The main ridge runs roughly north-south for about , with a lower extension running for about to the west. Much of the southern section of the range is protected in You Yangs Regional Park. The You Yangs sits about halfway between the Brisbane Ranges to the west and the nearest coast, at Corio Bay to the south-east. Werribee Gorge State Park is a state park in Victoria, Australia. It is located near Bacchus Marsh and is used by bushwalkers and rock climbers, who are attracted to its views and geological features. Werribee Gorge The main feature of this park is the Werribee Gorge, through which the Werribee River meanders. Ararat V/Line Rail Service
The Ballarat line is a regional passenger rail service operated by V/Line in Victoria, Australia. Parwan Railway Station
Parwan is a closed station located in the town of Parwan, near Bacchus Marsh, on the Ararat railway line in Victoria, Australia. The station platform was on the southern side of the line. Today, Parwan is a crossing loop, permitting trains up to 969 metres long to cross. The station opened to unofficial traffic on 18 March 1886, with the line extended to Bacchus Marsh on 16 February 1887. By 1890, Parwan had a platform, goods shed, a 20-lever interlocked signal box and a three road yard. In 1920, the crossing loop at the up end of the station was extended, and became known as Works Siding. The Ballast Siding became the new main running line in September 1922, and the old main line became a siding, which closed in early 1923. Automatic staff exchangers were provided around May 1927. 2021 Australian Census
The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. The 2021 Census took place on 10 August 2021, and was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). It had a response rate of 96.1%, up from the 95.1% at the 2016 census. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as 25,422,788, an increase of 8.6 per cent or 2,020,896 people over the previous 2016 census. Results from the 2021 census were released to the public on 28 June 2022 from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website. A small amount of additional 2021 census data was released in October 2022 and in 2023. Australia's next census is scheduled to take place in 2026.
