Party Of Labour Of Catalonia
The Party of Labour of Catalonia ( ca, Partit del Treball de Catalunya) was a communist party in Catalonia, Spain. PTC was formed in 1979 following a split from the Party of Labour of Spain (PTE). The leader of PTC was Joan Sánchez Carreté. PTC soon merged with the Marxist Unification Movement (MUM) and formed the Catalan Workers Bloc (BCT). The group that remained in PTE also called itself PTC, and contested the 1979 parliamentary elections as "''Partit del Treball de Catalunya (Federación del Partido del Trabajo de España)''". Maoism, officially called Mao Zedong Thought by the Chinese Communist Party, is a variety of Marxism–Leninism that Mao Zedong developed to realise a socialist revolution in the agricultural, pre-industrial society of the Republic of China and later the People's Republic of China. Catalan nationalism is the ideology asserting that the Catalans are a distinct nation. Intellectually, modern Catalan nationalism can be said to have commenced as a political philosophy in the unsuccessful attempts to establish a federal state in Spain in the context of the First Republic (1873-1874). Valentí Almirall i Llozer and other intellectuals that participated in this process set up a new political ideology in the 19th century, to restore self-government, as well as to obtain recognition for the Catalan language. Communist Party of Spain (international) (in Spanish language, Spanish: ''Partido Comunista de España (internacional)''), was a Communism, communist political party in Spain. Marxist Unification Movement (in Catalan: ''Moviment d'Unificació Marxista'') was a political group in Catalonia, Spain. The 1979 Spanish general election was held on Thursday, 1 March 1979, to elect the 1st Cortes Generales of the Kingdom of Spain. All 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies were up for election, as well as all 208 seats in the Senate. This was the first election held under the Spanish Constitution of 1978. The Union of the Democratic Centre (UCD) remained the largest party, winning 168 of the 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies and 119 of the 208 seats in the Senate. The 1980 Catalan regional election was held on Thursday, 20 March 1980, to elect the 1st Parliament of the autonomous community of Catalonia. All 135 seats in the Parliament were up for election. This was the first regional election to be held in Catalonia since the Spanish transition to democracy and the second democratic regional election in Catalan history after that of 1932.
