Partners For Sacred Places
Partners for Sacred Places is an American non-sectarian, non-profit organization whose mission is the support of older and historic sacred places by helping congregations and local communities sustain and actively use the structures. Founded in 1989, Partners has helped several thousand congregations and other local organizations protect their community-serving sacred places in towns and cities across America. Partners works with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to help communities adapt former religious properties for new uses—and retained them as important anchors and architectural landmarks. America's Most Endangered Places
America's 11 Most Endangered Places or America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places is a list of places in the United States that the National Trust for Historic Preservation considers the most endangered. It aims to inspire Americans to preserve examples of architectural and cultural heritage that could be "relegated to the dustbins of history" without intervention. Many of the locations listed by the Trust have been preserved, with there being some argument about how important the Trust's listing has actually been to their preservation. However, there have been notable losses, such as 2 Columbus Circle, which underwent significant renovations, and the original Guthrie Theater, demolition of which was completed in early 2007. Architectural History
The history of architecture traces the changes in architecture through various traditions, regions, overarching stylistic trends, and dates. The beginnings of all these traditions is thought to be humans satisfying the very basic need of shelter and protection. Touro Synagogue
The Touro Synagogue or Congregation Jeshuat Israel ( he, קהל קדוש ישועת ישראל) is a synagogue built in 1763 in Newport, Rhode Island. It is the Oldest synagogues in the United States, oldest synagogue building still standing in the United States, the only surviving synagogue building in the U.S. dating to the Colonial America, colonial era, and the oldest surviving Judaism, Jewish synagogue building in North America. In 1946, it was declared a National Historic Sites (United States), National Historic Site. Third Presbyterian Church (Chester, Pennsylvania)
The Third Presbyterian Church was a historic Presbyterian Church founded in 1872 in Chester, Pennsylvania. It was located at 9th and Potter Streets. The church was the location of the first summer bible school in 1912. The congregation closed in 1986 and was thereafter owned by the Chester Historical Preservation Committee. It was a stone Gothic Revival building designed by the noted Philadelphia architect Isaac Pursell. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in November 2019 but severely damaged by a five-alarm fire on May 28, 2020.
