Colombian Conservative Party
The Colombian Conservative Party ( es, Partido Conservador Colombiano) is a conservative political party in Colombia. The party was formally established in 1849 by Mariano Ospina Rodríguez and José Eusebio Caro. The Conservative party along with the Colombian Liberal Party dominated the Colombian political scene from the end of the 19th century until 2002, in bipartisan political hegemony. In the mid-20th century, the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party established the "National Front" after deposing President Gustavo Rojas Pinilla; the presidency alternated between the two parties for the next 16 years. The Conservative Party is the second largest political force in the country's legislature. The Conservative Party ( pt, Partido Conservador) was a Brazilian political party of the imperial period, which was formed c. 1836 and ended with the proclamation of the Republic in 1889. This party arose mostly from a dissident wing of the Moderate Party (''Partido Moderado'') and from some of the members of the Restorationist Party (''Partido Restaurador'') in the 1830s when it became known as the Reactionary Party (''Partido Regressista''). The Conservative Party (in Spanish: ''Partido Conservador'', PCon) of Chile was one of the principal Chilean political parties since its foundation in 1836 until 1948, when it broke apart. In 1953 it reformed as the United Conservative Party and in 1966 joined with the Liberal Party to form the National Party. Initially associated with the military of Ecuador the PC became one of the two great parties of state in the country, alternating in power with the Ecuadorian Radical Liberal Party. History The party is the oldest currently existing in Nicaragua. It was founded during the 19th century, as Nicaragua established itself as an independent republic, by members of the elite of Granada. As in many Latin American countries, a major political conflict took place between conservatives and liberals. During the 1840s and 1850s a nearly constant civil war took place between conservatives and liberals in Nicaragua. In 1857 the conservatives won, and dominated the country for 35 years. In 1893 the party split, and the liberals took advantage of this to make a successful rebellion. The conservative party returned to power in 1910, following the intervention of American troops. The Conservative Party (, PC) was a Panamanian political party. Panama inherited the traditional political parties of Colombia – the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party – which vied against one another from 1903 until the 1920s.
