Parramore is a neighborhood in west-central Orlando, Florida, US. Parramore
Parramore is a neighborhood in west-central Orlando, Florida. It is a historical neighborhood for Orlando residents of African descent, and suffered greatly during the Jim Crow era. In 2015, the unemployment rate was reported as 23.8% and median household income was $15,493. The area was developed as a segregated African-American community. It was built in the 1880s by Orlando's fourteenth mayor, James B. Parramore, as a development "to house the blacks employed in the households of white Orlandoans." While the historic east border of Parramore was Division Avenue (which marked the line where African-American residents living in the west could not cross into the east after sundown), Interstate 4 was constructed directly between Parramore and the prosperous and mostly white neighborhoods of central downtown, just east of Division Avenue and just west of the railroad tracks. Parramore Island Natural Area Preserve
Parramore Island Natural Area Preserve is a Natural Area Preserve located in Accomack County, Virginia, United States. Located on one of the barrier islands along the Atlantic Ocean, it is the state's largest Natural Area Preserve. More than long, it features a number of beaches, dunes, scrubs, marshes, and natural communities. The preserve is owned by The Nature Conservancy as part of their Virginia Coast Reserve, which includes 13 additional uninhabited barrier islands. Although it is not typically open to the public, access for research or educational purposes may be obtained from The Nature Conservancy. Makeba Parramore Wilbourn (born May 29, 1973) is an American developmental psychologist and professor at Duke University in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. She studies how children acquire knowledge. She was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from President Barack Obama. This is the highest honor bestowed on early career scientists in the US. Early life and education Wilbourn was born in Long Beach, California. She studied at the California State University, Fullerton, earning a bachelor's degree in 1997 and a master's degree in 2001. She was a State University of New York Minority Fellow at Cornell University between 2001 and 2003.
