Park City, Kentucky
Park City is a home rule-class city in Barren County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 537 at the 2010 census. It has served as the historical entrance to nearby Mammoth Cave National Park and to Diamond Caverns, a privately owned cave attraction. Park City is part of the Glasgow micropolitan area. History In the early 19th century, the site of the present city was the junction of the Louisville and Nashville Pike with spur roads to Glasgow and Bardstown. By 1827, a stagecoach relay station had developed into a settlement with a post office named Three Forks. The postmaster William Bell owned a plantation nearby, with a prominent tavern, which led to the community also being known as Bell's Station. In 1859, the mainline of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad reached the plantation, and in 1863 the Glasgow spur was completed. Park Hills is a home rule-class city in Kenton County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,162 at the 2020 census. It is a suburb of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Much of the city was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 as the Park Hills Historic District. Mammoth Cave Parkway
The Mammoth Cave Parkway is a major roadway located in the Mammoth Cave National Park in west-central Kentucky. It encompasses parts of Kentucky Routes 70 and 255 within the park in northwestern Barren and eastern Edmonson Counties. It closely follows the Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike & Hike Trail. Route description Mammoth Cave Parkway is marked by Kentucky Route 255 from U.S. Route 31W, through the I-65 exit 48 interchange. Kentucky Route 255
Kentucky Route 255 (KY 255) is a south-north state highway located in south central Kentucky. It provides access to Interstate 65 and Mammoth Cave National park to residents of southern Barren County. Route description Rocky Hill to Park City KY 255 begins at a junction with KY 252 in Barren County, near the Rocky Hill community. The route is narrow and considerably curvy until coming to a junction with KY 1297 about later. After this junction, the route straightens somewhat, proceeding north for another before coming to an intersection with the cojoined US 68/KY 80 in the Bon Ayr community. A mammoth is any species of the extinct elephantid genus ''Mammuthus'', one of the many genera that make up the order of trunked mammals called proboscideans. Glasgow Railway
The Glasgow Railway (formally, the Glasgow Railway Company, Inc.) is an American short-line railroad whose line runs from Park City to Glasgow, Kentucky. Though independently owned by the Robert Lessenberry family of Glasgow, the line is operated under long-term lease by CSX Transportation, as corporate successor to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. As such, the company has no locomotives or operable rolling stock, and apparently has noreporting mark assigned to it. The Glasgow Railway connects its namesake city with the former L&N's namesake main line at Park City, which itself was formerly named Glasgow Junction. The Louisville and Nashville Railroad , commonly called the L&N, was a Class I railroad that operated freight and passenger services in the southeast United States. A stagecoach is a four-wheeled public transport coach used to carry paying passengers and light packages on journeys long enough to need a change of horses. It is strongly sprung and generally drawn by four horses although some versions are drawn by six horses. Commonly used before steam-powered rail transport was available, a stagecoach made long scheduled trips using ''stage stations'' or posts where the stagecoach's horses would be replaced by fresh horses.
