Paris Métro Line 3bis
Paris Métro Line 3bis ( French: ''Ligne 3 bis du métro de Paris'') is one of the sixteen lines of the Paris Métro. It connects Gambetta and Porte des Lilas in the 20th arrondissement in the east of Paris. With a length of and four stations, the line is the shortest in the network. It is also the least used line, with just over 1.6 million passengers in 2003, behind Line 7bis's 3.5 million. The line was constructed during the 1910s as an extension to Line 3, but the two were disconnected in 1971. From then on Line 3bis was operated separately. At the same time Line 3 was extended to Gallieni. As of 2010, six MF 67 trains, each composed of three cars, run on the line. Porte Des Lilas (Paris Métro)
Porte des Lilas () is a station of the Paris Métro. It serves line 11 and is the northern terminus of line 3bis. Located on the edge of the 19th and 20th arrondissements of Paris, it serves the neighborhood of the Porte des Lilas. The station is named after the nearby ''Porte des Lilas'', a gate in the nineteenth century Thiers Wall of Paris, which led to the town of Les Lilas. The station was referred to in Serge Gainsbourg's famous 1958 chanson "''Le poinçonneur des Lilas'' about the ennui of a Métro employee's workday. A Scopitone music video for the song was filmed in Porte des Lilas, showing the singer in a Métro uniform, punching tickets. The Compagnie du chemin de fer métropolitain de Paris S.A. (Paris Metropolitan Railway Company Ltd.), or CMP, was the forerunner of the RATP, the company managing the Paris Métro. Origin So as not to be dependent on the Chemin de fer de l'État (national rail administration) for its rail transport, the City of Paris decided in 1883 on the construction of a subway network. There were some tensions between the national government and the city for the control of the operation, but the approach of the World Fair of 1900 speeded the decisions. In 1895, Louis Barthou, minister for public works, accepted that the construction work should be carried out by the city. That included building the tunnels, viaducts and stations and contracting for the operation. Paris Métro Line 2 ( French: ''Ligne 2 du métro de Paris'') is one of the sixteen lines of the Paris Métro. Situated almost entirely above the former customs barrier around the capital (''Boulevards extérieurs''), it runs in a semicircle in the north of Paris. As its name suggests, Line 2 was the second line of the Métro network to open, with the first section put into service on 13 December 1900; it adopted its current configuration on 2 April 1903, running between Porte Dauphine and Nation. Sprague-Thomson is the name of the first rolling stock on the Paris Métro made completely of metal. It replaced the mostly wooden M1. History Research before 1908 In light of the Paris Métro train fire of 1903, the Compagnie du chemin de fer métropolitain de Paris (CMP) searched for rolling stock that was both durable and safe. The Thomson Multiple stock was the most widely adopted at the time, but was complex. At the same time, the American Sprague stock did not fit the requirements. Two motors The Sprague-Thomson was conceived in 1908 through the synthesis of earlier systems and the use of the method of motor control invented by Frank J. Sprague. Paris Métro Line 11 ( French: ''Ligne 11 du métro de Paris'') is one of the sixteen lines of the Paris Métro. It links Châtelet to Mairie des Lilas in the northeastern suburbs. At a length of 6.3 km (3.9 mi) and 13 stations served, it is currently the shortest of the 14 main Métro lines (excluding Line 3bis and Line 7bis) but is being extended by 6 stations. With 47.1 million riders in 2017, it is the thirteenth busiest line of the network. Unlike most Paris Métro lines, Line 11 was not included in the original late 19th century scheme. A ''déclaration d'utilité publique'', or declaration of public utility, is a formal recognition in French law that a proposed project has public benefits. The declaration must be obtained for many large construction projects in France, especially for infrastructure, before work can begin. Process The first part of the declaration is a public inquiry, usually started by a prefect, to collect the views of all affected parties. Responses from affected parties are considered by a commissioner, who assesses whether the proposal has an overall benefit for the public. If the finding is favourable, the declaration is granted by decree. Fulgence Bienvenüe
Fulgence Bienvenüe (; 27 January 1852 – 3 August 1936) was a noted French civil engineer, best known for his role in the construction of the Paris Métro, and has been called "Le Père du Métro" (Father of the Metro). A native of Uzel in Brittany, and the son of a notary, in 1872 Bienvenüe graduated from the École Polytechnique as a civil engineer and the same year he began working for the Department of Bridges and Roads at Alençon. His first assignment was the construction of new railway lines in the Mayenne area, in the course of which his left arm had to be amputated after being crushed in a construction accident. In 1886, Bienvenüe moved on to Paris to design and supervise the construction of aqueducts for the city, drawing water from the rivers Aube and Loire. Next, he built a cable railway near the Place de la République and created the park of Buttes-Chaumont. Porte de Champerret () is a station on Paris Métro Line 3. Location The station is located under Boulevard Berthier between Rue de Courcelles and Avenue de Villiers. Pereire (Maréchal Juin) () is a station on Line 3 of the Paris Métro located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Location The station is located under Avenue de Villiers, east of Place du Maréchal-Juin.
