Parijatham (1950 Film)
''Parijatham'' is a Tamil language film released in 1950, starring T. R. Mahalingam, M. V. Rajamma and B. S. Saroja. Plot The film has three story lines. The first line which is the first part is about the well known myth of Naragasura. Naragasura, the demon king has invincible powers due to the boons he had received from Devas and with all that he wreaks havoc on everyone. Narada knows that only Bama, the wife of Krishna who was Naragasura's mother in the previous birth can annihilate him. Narada adept in his covert ways to achieve his goals subtly gifts a parijatham flower to Krishna and make him in turn gift it to his first wife Rukmani. As expected the demon king dies at the hands of Bama but not before making a request that his day of death be celebrated by people as Deepavali. The next story line has the same parijatham that breeds enmity in Bama against Rukmani. Finally she understands that Rukmani's devotion to Krishna far exceeds her own, a humbling experience. Sathya Studios
Sathya Studios (formerly Neptune Studios) was an Indian film studio based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was one of the oldest film studios and was formerly known as "Neptune Studio". The studio was bought by former Indian actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran and renamed as Sathya Studios. History as Lalitha Cinetone and National Theaters Limited Originally started by C. V. Raman when he leased from Nawab of Arcot, a large tract of land of 25-odd acres with some superstructures in Adayar with Greenways road on the north and the Adayar River on the south bordering the Broody Castle. The monthly rental was Rs. 150 and was intended as a studio floor for "Lalitha Cinetone". But the production company did not produce any movies due to financial troubles and the premises was later transferred to and transferred the studio to C. V. Padmini (actress)
Padmini Ramachandran (12 June 1932 – 24 September 2006) was an Indian actress and trained Bharatanatyam dancer, who acted in over 250 Indian films. She acted in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Russian language films. Padmini, with her elder sister Lalitha and her younger sister Ragini, were called the "Travancore sisters". Early life Padmini was born and raised in Trivandrum (present-day Thiruvananthapuram), in what was then the princely state of Travancore (now the Indian state of Kerala) to a Malayali-speaking family. She was the second daughter of Sree Thankappan Pillai and Saraswathi Amma. Career At the age of 16, Padmini was cast as the dancer in the Hindi film '' Kalpana'' (1948), launching her career. Madabhushi Rangadorai (born 8 November 1937), better known by his pen name Randor Guy, is an Indian lawyer, columnist and film and legal historian associated with the English language newspaper ''The Hindu''. He is also the official editor of the weekly column "Blast from the Past" that appears in ''The Hindu''. Early life Randor Guy's original name was Rangadorai, but his pen name later became official. Pillavalu Gajapathy Krishnaveni (3 November 1935 – 16 August 2004), more famously known as Jikki, was an Indian playback singer from Andhra Pradesh. She sang around 10,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and Sinhalese languages. Early life Jikki was born in Chennai on 3 November 1935. Her parents Gajapathi Naidu and Rajakanthamma, a Telugu family, had moved from Chandragiri, near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh to Chennai for their livelihood. Her uncle, Devaraju Naidu, worked as a music composer with the celebrated Kannada theatre legend and movie pioneer Gubbi Veeranna and this introduced the young Jikki to the music and film world. Kambadasan
Kambadasan (1916–1973) was an Indian writer, poet and film lyricist who worked mainly in Tamil-language films. Early life Kambadasan was born as Appaavu a.k.a. Rajappa at Ulagapuram, a village near Tindivanam in the then South Arcot District (Madras Presidency) on 15 September 1916. His father Subbarayar was a potter and his mother is Balammal. He was the only son to his parents whose other five children were all girls. The family migrated to Purasaivakkam in Chennai when he was a child. The school education came to an end with 6th standard. He was interested in stage plays. With his fine voice, singing talents and ability to play the harmonium, he soon established a place for himself in stage dramas.
