Paratriathlon At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Women's PTS2
The Paratriathlon at the 2024 Summer Paralympics – Women's PTS2 event at the 2024 Paralympic Games will take place at 07:15 CET on 1 September 2024 at Pont Alexandre III, Paris. 10 athletes representing 9 nations shall compete. Venue The Para triathlon course will start from Pont Alexandre III bridge near Seine River and will end at the same place. The event will be over sprint distance. There will be 750 metre Swim through Seine River, 20 km para cycling at Champs-Élysées, Avenue Montaigne, crossing the Seine by the Pont des Invalides and reaching the Quai d'Orsay and last leg of 5 km run will end at Pont Alexandre III bridge. Results World Triathlon confirmed the final entry list for the event in August 2024. Cécile Saboureau
Cécile Saboureau (born 14 May 1983) is a French paratriathlete. She is a two-time French champion and PTS2 European champion in 2023. Early life and amputation During her youth, Saboureau was a professional rider. Beginning at age 12, she had participated in the French and European show jumping equestrian championships and won several titles. In 2004, when Saboureau was 20 years old. She was the victim of a car accident that caused her to have to amputate a large part of her right leg. After two years of rehabilitation, she wore a femoral prosthesis, resumed equestrian competition and became the French disabled show jumping champion. Career In July 2018, Saboureau began her paratriathlon career, registered with the Triathlon Club de Saint-Quentin en Yvelines, won her first French championship in Gravelines in 2018 in the PTS2 category and in December, she was selected for the French team. Melissa Stockwell (born January 31, 1980) is an American two-time Paralympic triathlete, swimmer and former U.S. Army officer. Competing in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in three swimming events, she returned to race in the 2016 Paralympic Games and won a bronze medal in the inaugural triathlon event on September 11, 2016. Military career She joined the ROTC at the University of Colorado in her sophomore year and was a senior in college when the September 11, 2001 attack happened. She had Transportation Officer Basic Course training in Virginia before being assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. She was deployed in March 2004 to Iraq. A first lieutenant, she was the first female soldier to lose a limb in the Iraq War. She lost her left leg when a roadside bomb exploded when she was leading a convoy in Baghdad. Anu Francis (born 15 September 1995) is an Australian para-triathlete. She competed at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Personal life Francis was born on 15 September 1995. In 2017, she was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Dopa-Responsive Dystonia . Her disability has a variety of impairments, including hypertonia, involuntary muscle movements and gait abnormalities. In 2017, she graduated with Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience) at University of Adelaide. Due to her disability, she was denied undertaking a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a double bachelor's degree of Secondary and Special Education at Flinders University in 2022. In 2024, she is undertaking a Bachelor of Exercise Science at Flinders University. The Pont des Invalides is the lowest bridge traversing the Seine in Paris. History The story of this bridge started in 1821, when engineer Claude Navier conceived a technologically revolutionary bridge that crossed the Seine in one single reach without any point of support in between. The proposed suspension bridge, the construction of which started in 1824, was meant to be erected opposite to the Hotel des Invalides on the site of the current Pont Alexandre III. Navier failed to leave a safety margin on top of his calculations, and the contract to build the bridge was unusually rigid. After Navier's plan had been approved by the private investment company, the contractor could not make changes without approval, and there was no authorization to suggest improvements. Veronica Yoko Plebani (born 1 March 1996) is an Italian Paralympic athlete who has competed in snowboarding, paracanoeing and paratriathlon. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Paratriathlon, Women's PTS2, winning a bronze medal. Biography Plebani was born in Gavardo, in the province of Brescia, on 1 March 1996 and residing in Palazzolo sull'Oglio. Since childhood she has practiced numerous sports such as dance, gymnastics, athletics and snowboarding. On 27 April 2011, Plebani contracted meningitis, which she survived with the loss of the phalanges of the hands and toes. In November 2011, just out of the hospital, she participated in the 5k the day before the New York City Marathon crossing the finish line with 28 runners of the Monza Marathon Team.
