Paramount Animation is an American animation studio, serving as the animation division and label of Paramount Pictures, a subsidiary of Paramount Global. The division was founded on July 6, 2011, following the critical and commerical success of Paramount's own '' Rango'' and the end of their distribution deal with DreamWorks Animation in 2012. The studio's first film '' The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water'' was released on February 6, 2015, and its latest release was '' Transformers One'' on September 20, 2024, with their next release being '' Smurfs'' on July 18, 2025. Films produced by Paramount Animation have grossed a total of $832 million at the box office. Ralph Bakshi (; born October 29, 1938) is a Mandatory Palestine-born American retired animator and filmmaker, known for his fantastical animated films. In the 1970s, he established an alternative to mainstream animation through independent animation, independent and adult animation, adult-oriented productions. Between 1972 and 1994, he directed nine theatrically released feature films, predominantly urban fiction, urban drama film, dramas and fantasy films, five of which he wrote.
