The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) is the body responsible for selecting athletes to represent India at the Paralympic Games and other international athletic meets and for managing the Indian teams at the events. The organisation was founded in 1992 as the ''Physically Handicapped Sports Federation of India''. History In 1992, M. Mahadeva along with others started an organization at national level for the promotion and development of sports for the physically challenged and deifferently-abled people, Physically Handicapped Sports Federation of India. Deepa Malik
Deepa Malik (born 30 September 1970) is an Indian athlete. She started her career at the age of 30. She is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympic Games and won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in shot put. She also won gold in the F-53/54 Javelin event at the para athletic Grand Prix held in Dubai in 2018. She is currently the world number one in the F-53 category. Parasports are sports played by people with a disability, including physical and intellectual disabilities. Some parasports are forms of adapted physical activities from existing able-bodied sports, while others have been specifically created for persons with a disability and do not have an able-bodied equivalent. The country has participated in every edition of the Summer games since then. It has never participated in the Winter Paralympic Games.
