Gastropod Shell
The gastropod shell is part of the body of a Gastropoda, gastropod or snail, a kind of mollusc. The shell is an exoskeleton, which protects from predators, mechanical damage, and dehydration, but also serves for muscle attachment and calcium storage. ''Paralaoma innesi'', also known as Innes' pinhead snail, is a species of land snail that is endemic to Australia's Lord Howe Island in the Tasman Sea The Tasman Sea (Māori: ''Te Tai-o-Rēhua'', ) is a marginal sea of the South Pacific Ocean, situated between Australia and New Zealand. Description The depressedly turbinate shell of the mature snail is 0.95 mm in height, with a diameter of 1.7 mm, and a low spire. It is golden in colour. The whorls are rounded and slightly shouldered, with impressed sutures and closely spaced radial ribs. It has a roundedly lunate aperture and moderately widely open umbilicus.
