Paraguayan Metropolitan Basketball League
The Paraguayan Metropolitan Basketball League is the most important basketball league from Paraguay. As of 2015, 12 teams are participating in the league. The yearly winners of this league are considered the Paraguayan basketball champions, although only teams from Asunción compete (teams from other Department (country subdivision), departments compete in the Paraguayan National Basketball League, National League). Because of this, the champion gets the right to play in the South American Club Championship. History Amidst the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, it was announced that the Liga Nacional would return on 22 July 2020. Club Libertad
Club Libertad is a professional association football, football club based in Asunción, Paraguay that currently plays in the Paraguayan Primera División. The club plays its home games at Estadio Tigo La Huerta; which holds 10,100 people. Founded in 1905, Libertad is the third most successful Paraguayan football club, winning 22 national titles, only behind rivals Club Olimpia, Olimpia and Cerro Porteño. History The club was founded on 30 July 1905 by a group of young men and students. Its first president was Juan Manuel Sosa, who chose the club's name. Since winning its first championship in 1910, Libertad has always been overshadowed by the two big clubs in Paraguay: Club Olimpia, Olimpia and Cerro Porteño, who together won most of the Paraguayan football national championships. The Paraguayan Basketball Federation (in Spanish: ''Confederación Paraguaya de Básquetbol'') is the governing body of basketball in Paraguay. The PBF organizes male and female competitions for both the National League (for teams outside of Asunción) and the Metropolitan League (only for teams from Asunción), and runs the Paraguay national basketball team. Club Nacional de Regatas El Mbiguá (most commonly known as ''"Club Mbiguá"'') is a multisport club based in Asunción, Paraguay. The club was founded on May 6, 1902 as a rowing club. The club is famous in Paraguay for its rowing team and takes advantage of its location along the banks of the Paraguay River to train its athletes.
