Paradox (Canadian Band)
Paradox was a Canadian band formed in the 1980s by singer/guitarist Sylvain Cossette. The band's best known lineup featured Sylvain on vocals, Francois Cossette (guitar), Denis Lavigne (drums), and Jean-Francois Houle (bass). The band broke up in 1991. History Quebec-born Sylvain Cossette formed the Anglophone band Paradox with Denis Lavigne and Jean-Francois Houle as a cover band in Grand-Mère, Quebec, in 1984. After establishing a local reputation for their live act, the band received a FACTOR award in June 1988. This grant allowed them to record a demo which eventually led to a record deal with MCA Music America. With Sylvain's brother Francois joining the lineup on guitar, the band recorded their self-titled debut album ''Paradox'' at Studio Victor in Montreal in 1988. Grand-Mère, Quebec
Grand-Mère (, ) is a settlement and former municipality in central Quebec, Canada on the Saint-Maurice River. As a result of the municipal reorganization in Quebec which took effect at the beginning of 2002, Grand-Mère now forms part of the City of Shawinigan. Population in 2001 was 13,179. History Grand-Mère was founded in 1898. Like some of its neighbouring towns, it owes its economic origins to the St-Maurice river on which it is located. A major hydroelectric dam that was built on the river in 1916 was one of the oldest and largest Hydro-Québec generating stations. The dam was replaced by a larger dam in 2004. The abundance of relatively inexpensive electricity led to the development of industry, primarily based on the production of paper. Sylvain Cossette (born May 8, 1963) is a French-Canadian singer from Grand-Mère, Quebec (located in the Mauricie region). He was a founding member of the Quebec-based English-language band Paradox in 1984 before becoming a French-language solo artist by 1994. A cover band (or covers band) is a band that plays songs recorded by someone else, sometimes mimicking the original as accurately as possible, and sometimes re-interpreting or changing the original. Pierre "Baz" Bazinet (born May 5, 1956 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian record producer. Over the course of his career, he has produced many popular Canadian albums from a variety of artists, including Les Frères à Cheval, Madame, Robert Charlebois, Jean Leloup, Celine Dion, Boulevard, Luba, Paradox, Bruno Pelletier, Sass Jordan, Haze & Shuffle, Stereomovers, and Michel Lemieux. Luba (born Lubomyra Kowalchyk ( uk, Любомира Ковальчук), April 24, 1958) is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and recording artist from Quebec. She was professionally active from 1980 to 1990, 2000 to 2001 and is active again from 2007 to present. Career Luba performed with the band Zorya, which released a self-titled album in 1973. In the 1980s she was the vocalist for a band named ''Luba'', and in 1980 that band released the album ''Chain Reaction''. Luba later signed as a solo artist under that name. She released three more albums and two EPs. Two of her albums are certified platinum by the Canadian music industry (sales in excess of 100,000 units). Boulevard (Canadian Band)
Boulevard is a Canadian band (originally abbreviated Blvd) formed in 1983 in Calgary by Mark Holden (saxophone/vocals). After releasing two studio albums, they disbanded in 1991. They reunited 23 years later, in 2014, and played at Firefest in Nottingham, England. They released their third studio album in September 2017. History In 1983, saxophonist Mark Holden co-founded Thunder Road Studio in Calgary, Alberta. He started a studio project called Modern Minds using studio players in Calgary. In 1984, he asked Andrew Johns to join as keyboard player and lead vocalist, while redoing some of the old demos.
