''Paradesi'' or ''Poongothai'' is a 1953 Indian Telugu-Tamil bilingual romance film, produced by P. Adinarayana Rao under the Anjali pictures banner and directed by L. V. Prasad. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Anjali Devi, Sivaji Ganesan and music also composed by P. Adinarayana Rao. The film is a remake of the Hindi movie ''Raj Rani'' (1950). No print of ''Poongothai'' is known to survive, making it a lost film. Plot synopsis Chandram and Lakshmi who fall in love with each other, consummate their love but are separated by fate. ''Paradesi'' () is a 1998 Indian Telugu language comedy film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. The film starred Viswa, Madhav Dalvi, Tanuja, and Monet Quick. The film was shot mainly in the USA over a 93-day schedule and is notable for its visuals. Plot The movie is about a mischievous, educated, small-town boy. He is sent abroad to marry a girl of Indian origin. He takes his best friend along and they decide to play a prank and change identities. As fate would have it they fall in love with two girls while still in the assumed identities. This leads to complications and comic situations, especially when the fake identities become intertwined. ''Paradesi'' () is a 2007 Indian Malayalam-language drama film written and directed by P. T. Kunju Muhammed. It was produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the company Aashirvad Cinemas. Mohanlal plays Valiyakaththu Moosa, in three stages of his life, between the ages of 35 and 80. It also features Swetha Menon, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Siddique in significant roles. The film portrays the issue of Indian citizens who left the country before the partition of India in search of job, mostly to Arabia, and happened to reach Pakistan, and then when returned to the homeland, happened to be holding a Pakistani passport, and now is forced by the Indian authorities to leave the nation to Pakistan, which even the Pakistani authorities won't allow. The film was based on novel ''Eriyum Panikadu'', Tamil translation of the 1969 English novel ''Red Tea'' by Paul Harris Daniel and inspired from real life incidents that took place before independence in the 1930s. Paradesi Jews were Jews, Jewish people who immigrated to the Indian subcontinent during the 15th and 16th centuries following the expulsion of Jews from Spain. ''Paradesi'' refers to the Malayalam word that means ''foreign'' as they were newcomers. These Sephardic (from Spain and Portugal) immigrants fled forced conversion, persecution and antisemitism in the wake of the Alhambra Decree expelling Jews from Spain, and Manuel I of Portugal, King Manuel's 1496 decree expelling Jews from Portugal. They are sometimes referred to as "White Jews", although that usage is generally considered pejorative or discriminatory and refers to relatively recent Jewish immigrants (end of the 15th century onward), predominantly Sephardim.
