Papua New Guinea Greens Party
The Papua New Guinea Greens Party or PNG Greens are a minor political party in Papua New Guinea. Founded in 2001, the party took part in the 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017 general elections, without winning a seat. They are a member of the Global Greens and of the Asia Pacific Greens Federation. Per its constitution, the party campaigns for environmentally sustainable development, participatory democracy, an "equitable distribution of social and natural resources to meet basic human needs unconditionally", and respect for "cultural, linguistic, ethnic, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity within the context of individual responsibility toward all beings". In the 2012 general election, the party was led by Dorothy Tekwie and stood twenty-five candidates, of whom ten were women, in a country where women remain vastly under-represented in politics. Green Politics
Green politics, or ecopolitics, is a political ideology that aims to foster an ecologically sustainable society often, but not always, rooted in environmentalism, nonviolence, social justice and grassroots democracy. In ecology, resilience is the capacity of an ecosystem to respond to a perturbation or disturbance by resisting damage and recovering quickly. Such perturbations and disturbances can include stochastic events such as fires, flooding, windstorms, insect population explosions, and human activities such as deforestation, fracking of the ground for oil extraction, pesticide sprayed in soil, and the introduction of exotic plant or animal species. Carbon Footprint
A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, service, place or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Ecosystem services are the many and varied benefits to humans provided by the natural environment and healthy ecosystems. Such ecosystems include, for example, agroecosystems, forest ecosystem, grassland ecosystems, and aquatic ecosystems. Belden Namah
Belden Namah (born 30 December 1969) is a Papua New Guinea politician. He is a Member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea for the Papua New Guinea Party, representing Vanimo-Green since 2007. He served in Cabinet from 2007 to 2010 and as Deputy Prime Minister from 2011 to 2012. From 2012, he was an important member of the Parliamentary opposition. After retaining his seat in the 2022 election, he rejoined the government benches. Military career Namah originates from Vanimo near the border of Indonesia. He joined the military and graduated from Australia's Royal Military College Duntroon. He received training for a Special Forces Unit (SFU). During the Sandline affair he played a major role as one of the five PNG Defence Force officers who captured Tom Spicer, the leader of the mercenaries. Asia Pacific Greens Federation
The Asia Pacific Greens Federation (APGF) (formerly the Asia Pacific Greens Network) is a federation of national Green parties and related organisations in countries in the Pacific Ocean and Asia, and is one of the four Federations that constitute the Global Greens. The Federation's purpose is to promote and implement the Global Greens Charter by providing and promoting support to, coordination of, and collaboration between its member Green political parties.
