Papineauville is a town and municipality in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada. It is the seat of the Papineau Regional County Municipality. In 2001 its population was 2247. The municipality is bordered on the north side by the Petite-Nation River and on the south side by Pentecost Bay of the Ottawa River. History The Parish of Sainte-Angélique was formed in 1851, and the parish municipality with the same name was created in 1855. It was named after Angélique-Louise Cornud, wife of Denis-Benjamin Papineau, who donated land for the construction of the church and the rectory. Also in 1855, a post office was established with the name Papineauville. This may be named in honour of one of two persons named Papineau: Joseph Papineau (1752–1841), father of Louis-Joseph Papineau, who in 1801 bought the lordship of the Petite-Nation where the town formed; or Denis-Benjamin Papineau (1789–1854), brother of Louis-Joseph and husband of Angélique-Louise, and considered the founder o ... Petite-Nation River
The Petite-Nation River is a river in western Quebec, Canada, that flows from the Laurentian Mountains to empty into the Ottawa River near Plaisance, Quebec. The river is in length. This river's French name refers to the Algonquin people that inhabited this region, the ''Weskarini'', which means "people of the little nation". The valley of the Petite-Nation was part of the Seigneury de la Petite-Nation, originally owned by the Lord François de Laval, the first archbishop of New France. Joseph Papineau acquires it from Séminaire de Québec in two parts, in 1801 and 1803. Joseph Papineau sold the seigneury to his son, Louis-Joseph Papineau, in 1817. Denis-Benjamin, Joseph's second son, is the lord of the seigneury. Montebello, Quebec
Montebello is a municipality located in the Papineau Regional County Municipality of Western Quebec, Canada. At the 2001 census, there were 1,039 permanent residents. The village has a total area of , and is located at the eastern edge of Quebec's Outaouais region. It is located on the border with Ontario. The village is the location of the Château Montebello resort, the largest log structure ever built. The resort was the host of the 1983 NATO Nuclear Planning Group, and the 1981 G7 Economic Summit. Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, Quebec
Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours is a municipality in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada. It is located along the Ottawa River, about east of Gatineau. It was formerly known as Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours-Partie-Nord. It is the least populated municipality in the Papineau Regional County Municipality. The northern portion of the municipality is undeveloped wilderness, mostly part of the Kenauk Reserve. This protected wilderness domain was formerly known as "Reserve de la Petite Nation", but is now a privately owned fish and game reserve of Château Montebello. Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix (French for "Our Lady of Peace") is a town and municipality in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Papineau Regional County Municipality. History In 1902, the municipality was formed out of sections of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours and Saint-André-Avellin. Although it remains unclear what specific event is referred to in the name of this parish municipality, it followed the theme of municipal names in the Outaouais dedicated to the Virgin Mary, probably due to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, who were missionaries and pastors throughout the region. Saint-André-Avellin is a municipality located within the Papineau Regional County Municipality in the Outaouais region in western Quebec, Canada. At the 2016 census, it had a population of 3,749 people. The town, located along Quebec route 321, is about north of Papineauville and Quebec route 148 and Quebec Autoroute 50 and is about an hour away from Downtown Ottawa. École secondaire Louis-Joseph-Papineau is a francophone public mixed secondary school in the region of Outaouais in Quebec. Plaisance is a municipality in Papineau Regional County Municipality in western Quebec, Canada. Henri Bourassa
Joseph-Napoléon-Henri Bourassa (; September 1, 1868 – August 31, 1952) was a French Canadian political leader and publisher. In 1899, Bourassa was outspoken against the British government's request for Canada to send a militia to fight for Britain in the Second Boer War. Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier's compromise was to send a volunteer force, but the seeds were sown for future conscription protests during the World Wars of the next half-century. Bourassa unsuccessfully challenged the proposal to build warships to help protect the empire. He led the opposition to conscription during World War I and argued that Canada's interests were not at stake. He opposed Catholic bishops who defended military support of Britain and its allies. Louis-Joseph Papineau
Louis-Joseph Papineau (October 7, 1786 – September 23, 1871), born in Montreal, Quebec, was a politician, lawyer, and the landlord of the ''seigneurie de la Petite-Nation''. He was the leader of the reformist Patriote movement before the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837–1838. His father was Joseph Papineau, also a politician in Quebec. Papineau was the eldest of eight children and was the grandfather of the journalist Henri Bourassa, founder of the newspaper ''Le Devoir''. Louis-Joseph Papineau is commemorated by a public artwork installed in the metro station, Papineau that serves the street named for his father Joseph Papineau.
