Papermill (song)
"Papermill" is a song recorded by American hip hop duo Madvillain. It was released 26 May 2010 as part of the Adult Swim Singles Program. Background "Papermill" was intended to serve as the first single from Madvillain's still-unreleased followup to ''Madvillainy''. According to label Stones Throw, the album had been in progress since 2009. The song was the second single released in the 2010 Adult Swim Singles Program. The Madlib-produced beat samples a chopped-up europop song with German lyrics. Adult Swim also released some behind-the-scenes videos to go along with the song of Madlib talking about his creative process while taste-testing some Intelligentsia coffee branded with his name. Madvillain was an American hip hop duo consisting of two MCs and producers, MF Doom and Madlib. Their only album, ''Madvillainy'', earned critical acclaim and cult popularity, widely regarded as one of the greatest rap albums of all time and a benchmark record for alternative hip hop. Their intricate rhymes and lyrics, short song structures and use of obscure, stylistically diverse samples made for a sound that was generally unfriendly to commercial radio but was lauded for its influence on underground rap. MF DOOM
Daniel Dumile ( ; July 13, 1971October 31, 2020), best known by his stage name MF Doom or simply Doom (both stylized in all caps), was a British-American rapper and record producer. Noted for his intricate wordplay, signature metal mask, and "supervillain" stage persona, Dumile became a major figure of underground hip hop and alternative hip hop in the 2000s. After his death, '' Variety'' described him as one of the scene's "most celebrated, unpredictable and enigmatic figures". Born in London, Dumile moved to Long Island, New York, at a young age. Alternative Hip Hop
Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising " hip hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk."
