Paolo Ponzo
Paolo Ponzo (11 March 1972 – 24 March 2013) was an Italian footballer who last played as a midfielder for Liguria club Imperia. Career Early career Born in Cairo Montenotte, Liguria, Ponzo started his senior career with Serie D club Vado. In 1991–92 Serie A season, he was signed by one of the largest club in Liguria region, Genoa C.F.C. He played a season with its youth team and left for Montevarchi in 1992. Serie B teams After 3 Serie C2 seasons with the Tuscany team, he was signed by Serie B club Cesena. After the club relegated, he left for Serie B club Ravenna in 1997. He played 4 times for the Emilia–Romagna club and moved to regional and league rival Reggiana in January 1998, in exchange with Sebastiano Vecchiola. Cairo Montenotte () is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Savona in Liguria, an Italian region located west of Genoa and northwest of Savona. Located in Val Bormida, it is a member of the Comunità Montana Alta Val Bormida. It is considered to be the main centre of Val Bormida and it has 12691 inhabitants. It is the fourth municipality in the province together with Savona, Albenga and Varazze, as well as the most popular municipality in Liguria among those without outlet on the sea. Lega Pro Prima Divisione was the third highest football league in Italy. It consisted of 33 teams, divided geographically into two divisions of 16 and 17 teams for group A and B respectively. Until 2008 it was known as Serie C1. Before the 1978–79 season there were only three leagues of professional football in Italy, the third being Serie C. In 1978, it was decided to split Serie C into Serie C1 and Serie C2. Serie C2, the fourth highest professional league in the Italian system, was also renamed in 2008 and was called Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. The 2006–07 Serie B season is the 75th season since its establishment in 1929. It started on 9 September 2006 and ended on 10 June 2007. The 22 clubs in Serie B each played 42 matches during the regular season. The 2006–07 season marked the first Serie B appearance for two clubs, Frosinone Calcio, Frosinone and then 27-time Italian champions Juventus F.C., Juventus, whose involvement in the league was a direct result of the ''Calciopoli'' rulings and not competition in the previous Serie A season.
