Panya Vijinthanasarn ( th, ปัญญา วิจินธนสาร; ; born 24 June 1956) is a Thai artist. He is one of the artists who painted the murals in the ordination hall of Wat Buddhapadipa in London. Silpakorn University
Silpakorn University (SU.) ( th, มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร; ) is a national university in Thailand. The university was founded in Bangkok in 1943 by Tuscan–born art professor Corrado Feroci, who took the Thai name Silpa Bhirasri when he became a Thai citizen. It began as a fine arts university and now includes many other faculties as well. In 2016, it has 25,210 students. History Silpakorn University was originally established as the School of Fine Arts under Thailand's Fine Arts Department in 1933. The school offered the only painting and sculpture programs and waived tuition fees for government officials and students. The UCL Slade School of Fine Art (informally The Slade) is the art school of University College London (UCL) and is based in London, England. The National Artist ( th, ศิลปินแห่งชาติ, , ) is a title given annually by the Office of the National Culture Commission of Thailand, recognizing notable Thai artists in the area of intangible cultural heritage such as literature, fine arts, visual arts, applied arts (architecture, design) and performing arts (Thai dance, international dance, puppetry, shadow play, Thai music, international music, drama and film). Since 1985, the honors have been presented on 24 February, "National Artist Day", in Thailand. The date was chosen because it is the birthdate of Buddha Loetla Nabhalai, or King Rama II, who was an artist himself. In 1986, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, an accomplished musician, photographer, and painter, was named "Supreme Artist". National artists receive 25,000 baht monthly for life unless the award is retracted. Wat Buddhapadipa
Wat Buddhapadipa or the Buddhapadipa Temple ( th, วัดพุทธปทีป; , ) is a Thai Buddhist temple ('' wat'') in Wimbledon, London. Building work on the temple and shrine started in 1979 and it was completed in 1982. The architect was Praves Limparangsi (1930–2018) a renowned Thai architect, named by the Thai Culture Ministry as National Artists for Architecture in 1989. Funding was provided by the Thai Government and the main building is known as the Uposatha. Inside, the murals are painted by 26 young Thai artists between 1984–1992. It was the first such temple to be built in the United Kingdom. It is home to monks and nuns, but welcomes visitors of any faith to view the grounds and temple as long as they are respectful to the building.
