Pantjiti Mary McLean
Pantjiti Mary McLean (c. 1930, Kaltukatjara, Western Australia) is a Ngaatjajarra Aboriginal Australian artist. Life Pantjiti Mary McLean was born circa 1930 in Kaltukatjara, Docker River, Western Australia. She met her husband Mr. Bates at Blackstone. In the 1950s she left the Western Desert walking with her husband and son to the Warburton Ranges, and then to Cosmo Newbury in the Eastern Goldfields. According to government policy of that time local Aboriginal children were to be raised and schooled by the missionaries at Mount Margaret Mission where McLean's son went too. When McLean's daughter was born, she was also taken away from her. While children were at the mission McLean was directed to work on the district sheep station where she chose to be a station hand mustering the sheep. In the 1970s McLean moved to the Kalgoorlie Native Reserve, and then in the 1980s to the Ninga Mia Community in Kalgoorlie, where she lived until 2008. She now resides at a local aged care ... Kaltukatjara , also known as Docker River, is a remote Indigenous Australian community in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is southwest of Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Alice Springs, west of the Stuart Highway, near the Western Australia and Northern Territory border. The township is on a wadi called the Docker Creek on the north side of the west end of the Petermann Ranges (Australia), Petermann Ranges in the southwest corner of the Northern Territory of Australia. Cruthers Collection Of Women's Art
Cruthers Collection of Women's Art is a collection of more than 700 artworks by Australian women, held at the University of Western Australia. It is the only public collection focused on women's art in Australia. The Cruthers Collection was founded in 2007 following the donation by Sir James and Lady Sheila Cruthers of some 400 artworks and is named in recognition of their gift. The collection includes artworks by Australian women artists from the 1890s to the present day, with Australian modernism, feminist and contemporary art being represented. There is a focus on "the artist and her work", where a portrait or self-portrait of an artist is supported by a non-portrait example of their work.
