Panther J72
The J.72 was an ultra-exclusive Luxury vehicle, luxury Roadster (automobile), roadster, the first product of the Panther Westwinds company. Styled to evoke the Jaguar SS100 and sold from 1972 through 1981, it used mechanicals from the Jaguar XJ, including its 5.3 L Jaguar V12 engine, V12 engine. It was also offered with Jaguar's 3.8 L and 4.2 L Jaguar XK6 engine, XK engines. The J.72 was a success for the small company, with its Connolly Leather, Connolly coachwork. The car was purchased by a celebrity clientele. A total of 368 units were produced. Panther Westwinds
Panther Westwinds (commonly known as Panther) was a manufacturer of niche sports cars and luxury cars, based in Surrey, United Kingdom. History Founded in 1972 by Robert Jankel, the Panther company initially manufactured retro-styled cars based on the mechanical components of standard production cars from other manufacturers. The Panther Lima bodyshell was manufactured from fibreglass, by Industrial Marine Fibreglass (IMF), who were based on the Milber Industrial Estate, Newton Abbot, Devon. Other examples of cars manufactured by Panther included 1975's Panther Rio, Rio: based on the Triumph Dolomite, but appointed to "Rolls-Royce Motors, Rolls-Royce standards" — the cost of which was equivalent to three Triumph Dolomites. Connolly Leather
Connolly Leather Limited was a British company that supplied highly finished leather primarily to car manufacturers. Founded in 1878, it went out of business in that form in 2002. A successor firm, Connolly Brothers, UK, has resumed producing traditional Connolly leather products and lines, including its popular Vaumol. History Connolly supplied most of the leather for the British car industry, including Aston Martin & Lagonda, Rolls-Royce & Bentley, Jaguar & Daimler, Vauxhall Motors and Rover cars including its Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles as well as some MG and Mini models during the Rover Group era. The Jaguar XJ is a series of full-size luxury cars produced by British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars (becoming Jaguar Land Rover in 2013) from 1968 to 2019. The SS Jaguar 100 is a British 2-seat sports car built between 1936 and 1939 by SS Cars Ltd of Coventry, England. Robert Jankel
Robert Jankel (1 January 1938 – 25 May 2005) was a British designer of limousines, armoured cars, and other speciality vehicles. He also founded the automotive company Panther Westwinds. Early life Born in London in 1938, Jankel was educated at St Paul's School and studied engineering at Chelsea College. He was an avid sportsman and a member of the St Paul's rowing team. Jankel built his first car in 1954: he rebuilt and customised a wrecked Austin 7. After an unsuccessful attempt at selling cars, he agreed to join the family fashion business, Goldenfelds. During his time as a fashion designer, he still worked on cars, including a classic 1930 Rolls-Royce, which he completely rebuilt in 1970. On a trip to Spain, a bullfighter offered Jankel £10,000 for the Rolls-Royce. It was this sale that inspired Jankel to found an automobile company. Weybridge
Weybridge () is a town in the Borough of Elmbridge in Surrey, England, around southwest of central London. The settlement is recorded as ''Waigebrugge'' and ''Weibrugge'' in the 7th century and the name derives from a crossing point of the River Wey, which flows into the River Thames to the north of the town centre. The earliest evidence of human activity is from the Bronze Age. During the Anglo-Saxon and medieval periods, Weybridge was held by Chertsey Abbey.
