Killing Joke
Killing Joke are an English rock music, rock band from Notting Hill, London, England, formed in 1979 by Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards), Paul Ferguson (drums), Geordie Walker (guitar) and Youth (musician), Youth (bass). Their first album, ''Killing Joke (1980 album), Killing Joke'', was released in 1980. After the release of ''Revelations (Killing Joke), Revelations'' in 1982, bassist Youth was replaced by Paul Raven (musician), Paul Raven. ''Pandemonium'' is the ninth studio album by English post-punk band Killing Joke, released on 2 August 1994 by Butterfly Records. The album marked Killing Joke's return after a four-year hiatus, the longest the band had taken since it was founded. It also featured the return of founding member Youth, who replaced Paul Raven on bass. Content The vocal tracks for "Pandemonium", "Exorcism" and "Millennium" were recorded in the King's Chamber of The Great Pyramid of Giza. Butterfly Records
Butterfly Recordings is the name used by three record labels. 1970s "Butterfly Records", a disco record label created in 1977 by A.J. Cervantes in Los Angeles, California, and closed down in 1980. 1990s "Butterfly Recordings", formed by the artist and electronic dance music producer Martin Glover (commonly known as Youth). Youth set up the second incarnation in the 1990s before setting up Dragonfly Records. It released many electronic dance albums by such bands as System 7, often in conjunction with Big Life. Jaz Coleman
Jeremy "Jaz" Coleman (born 26 February 1960) is an English singer and musician. He came to prominence in the early 1980s as the lead vocalist and keyboardist of post-punk group Killing Joke. Coleman is known for his unique raspy baritone voice and intense stage presence (occasionally appearing wearing face makeup). Bill Janovitz, writer for the website Allmusic, described Coleman's stage presence and voice as "almost always full-on in his approach, with a terrifying growl of a voice that is similar to that of Motörhead's Lemmy". In the first part of their career, Coleman also played synth while singing, adding electronic atonal sounds to create a disturbing atmosphere to their music. Geordie Walker
Kevin "Geordie" Walker (born 18 December 1960) is an English rock musician, best known as the guitarist of post-punk group Killing Joke. His unorthodox style of electric guitar playing is widely acclaimed. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin hailed Walker's guitar sound as "really strong". Peer Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine praised Walker's guitar playing, which he described as "this effortless playing producing a monstrous sound". Life and career When he was eight years old, Walker was deeply marked by the guitar's sound in the song "Sabre Dance" by Love Sculpture. "I used to go mad when it came on the radio." When he was fourteen, Walker's family moved south from Newcastle to Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, 45 miles northwest of London. Martin "Youth" Glover
Martin Glover (born 27 December 1960), better known by his stage name Youth, is a British record producer and musician, best known as a founding member and bassist of the rock band Killing Joke. He is also a member of the Fireman, along with Paul McCartney. Early career Martin Glover was born on 27 December 1960 in Slough, at that point part of Buckinghamshire, England. He attended Kingham Hill School, an independent private school in Oxfordshire, where he met Alex Paterson, who would become a roadie for Glover's band Killing Joke, and later founder of The Orb. Naming himself "Youth" after the roots reggae Rastafari chanter Big Youth, in 1977 he joined punk rock band the Rage, who toured with the Adverts. Greg Hunter (born 1965 in Hammersmith, London) is an English composer and sound engineer. He attended Goldsmiths, University of London. He is known for his work with The Orb and with producer Youth in their collaboration to form Dub Trees, and as a composer of electronic / world music. His work with Youth includes the remix and production on Suns of Arqa's album ''Jaggernaut Whirling Dub'' released in 1992. "Exorcism" is Killing Joke's first single from their ninth studio album, '' Pandemonium''. It was released on 11 March 1994 by Butterfly Records. "Exorcism", like " Money Is Not Our God", failed to chart on the UK Singles Charts. Background In 1990, Killing Joke agreed to take a hiatus from writing studio material. Although the song "Change" was remixed by Martin "Youth" Glover in 1992, the band decided to take another year off until he was ready to return to the band.
