Panday (comics)
The Panday (Filipino for smith) is a fictional Philippine comics character created by writer Carlo J. Caparas and artist Steve Gan. His stories were first serialized in the comic series ''Ang Panday'' ("The Smith") in ''Pilipino Komiks'' during the late 1970s. The character, whose real name is Flavio, became a Philippine pop culture icon since it was adapted to film ('' Ang Panday)'' in 1980 with Fernando Poe Jr. portraying Flavio and Max Alvarado as his archenemy Lizardo. The film spawned three direct sequels, as well as multiple other more loosely connected films and television series including an animated version. Publication history In the 1970s, Carlo J. Caparas was thinking of a new comics adventure novel due to the wishes of his publisher Don Ramon Roces and then later he came up with a legendary folk hero named the Panday. Suyash Panday (born 26 September 1962), better known by his stage name Chunky Panday, is an Indian actor who works in Bollywood films. He has appeared in over 100 films in a career that has spanned over three decades. His most successful films in Hindi were in the period 1987-1994. Basdeo Panday (; born 25 May 1933) is a Trinidadian and Tobagonian lawyer, politician, trade unionist, economist, actor, and former civil servant who served as the fifth Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago from 1995 to 2001. He was the first person of Indian descent along with being the first Hindu to hold the office of Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. The Pande family or Pande dynasty (Also spelled as Pandey or Panday) ( ne, पाँडे वंश/पाँडे काजी खलक; or ) was a Rajput KC (surname), Chhetri political family that directly ruled Nepali administration affairs since the 16th century to 19th century as Mulkaji and Mukhtiyar (Prime Minister). Panday Pira ( Kapampángan: ''Pandeng Pira''; 1488–1576) was a Filipino Kapampángan Muslim blacksmith His name literally translates as "Blacksmith Pira", ''panday'' being the Tagalog word for "blacksmith". Panday Pira was a native of the southern islands of the Philippines. He migrated to Manila in 1508 and established a foundry on the northern bank of the Pasig River. Rajah Sulayman commissioned Panday Pira to cast the cannon that were mounted on the palisades surrounding his kingdom. In 1570, Castilian forces under the command of Martin de Goiti captured Manila and took these artillery pieces as war booty, presenting them to Miguel López de Legazpi, the first Spanish Governor-General of the Philippines. Legazpi eventually established a permanent Castilian settlement in Manila on May 19, 1571 and on June 3 of the same year, Tarik Sulayman waged the Battle of Bangkusay Channel to recapture his kingdom from the Spaniards. ''Ang Panday'' () is a 1980 Filipino action-fantasy film produced and directed by Fernando Poe Jr., who also stars as the titular character. It is based on the fictional comics character of the same name, created by Carlo J. Caparas and illustrated by Steve Gan.
