''Panay'' is a 2015 feature film directed by Taiwanese director Cheng Yu-Chieh and Lekal Sumi Cilangasan. It is inspired by a true story. Panay is a very common female name among the Taiwanese Indigenous tribe, it simply stands for the beautiful spike of rice. This is one of the few Taiwanese movies that filmed from an indigenous perspective. Through the cross ethnic cooperation between two directors, Cheng Yu-Chieh (Han) and Lekal Sumi (Pangcah). Actors are mostly new to the stage, they are fresh yet persuasive. The movie was being awarded the Audience Choice Award from the Taipei Film Festival. Panay's theme song "Aka Pisawad "Aka Pisawad" (Mandarin: 不要放棄) is a song written and sung by Suming, an Amis singer, and is the theme song of the 2015 Taiwanese film "Wawa No Cidal". Cheng Yu-Chieh
Cheng Yu-Chieh (born November 27, 1977) is a Taiwanese director, a screenwriter and an actor. His first feature film ''Do Over'' (一年之初) in 2006 won the top price in Taipei Film Festival and was invited to various international film festivals and gained Cheng international attention. Besides being a screenwriter and director, Cheng is also known as an actor. In 2008 his portrayal of the police officer, Pan Shi-Yuan, in Wang Shau-Di's TV drama ''Police et vous'' (波麗士大人) was highly appreciated by the audience. Additionally, in 2009, he played Xu Fang-Guo in Chen Hui-Ling's TV drama ''Autumn's concerto'' (下一站,幸福) . Cheng Yu-Chieh's second feature film, '' Yang Yang'' (陽陽), was released on August 7, 2009, and was selected for the Berlin Film Festival. Pangcah
The Amis ( ami, Amis, Ami, Pangcah; ), also known as the Pangcah, are an indigenous Austronesian ethnic group native to Taiwan. They speak the Amis language (; ), an Austronesian language, and are one of the sixteen officially recognized Taiwanese indigenous peoples. The traditional territory of the Amis includes the long, narrow valley between the Central Mountains and the Coastal Mountains ( Huadong Valley), the Pacific coastal plain eastern to the Coastal Mountains and the Hengchun Peninsula. In 2014, the Amis numbered 200,604. This was approximately 37.1% of Taiwan's total indigenous population, making them the largest indigenous group. Aka Pisawad
"Aka Pisawad" (Mandarin: 不要放棄) is a song written and sung by Suming, an Amis singer, and is the theme song of the 2015 Taiwanese film "Wawa No Cidal". The song won the Best Original Song for a Movie at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards in 2015, and the Best Song of the Year award at the 27th Golden Melody Awards in 2016, marking the first time a song in its native language has won the Best Song of the Year award at the Golden Melody Awards. Han Taiwanese, Taiwanese Han (), Taiwanese Han Chinese, or Han Chinese are Taiwanese people of full or partial ethnic Han descent.
